Introduce the Role

We are looking for a motivated and compassionate Health Care Assistant to join our friendly and supportive team at Premier Medical Centre, Wembley.

This is an exciting opportunity to work within a busy, forward-thinking GP practice serving approximately 14,300 patients. As a valued member of our clinical team, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality patient care and supporting the smooth running of our clinical services.

The successful candidate will work closely with our GPs, nurses, pharmacists and wider multidisciplinary team, providing a range of clinical duties while ensuring patients receive a professional, caring and positive experience. We are seeking someone who is enthusiastic, reliable, patient-focused and committed to delivering excellent standards of care.

This role offers the opportunity to develop your skills within primary care, work alongside experienced clinicians, and contribute to improving health outcomes for our local community.

Working pattern: Monday, Tuesday and Friday (22.5 hours per week).

Main duties of the job

The Health Care Assistant will support the clinical team in delivering a high standard of patient care within a primary care setting.

Key responsibilities will include undertaking clinical observations such as blood pressure monitoring, height, weight and BMI measurements, ECGs, venepuncture, health checks, NHS Health Checks, new patient assessments, wound care support, vaccinations (where appropriately trained), chaperoning, and assisting clinicians during procedures.

The post holder will also be responsible for maintaining accurate patient records, ensuring clinical rooms are appropriately stocked and prepared, maintaining infection prevention and control standards, and supporting the delivery of chronic disease management and preventative healthcare programmes.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills, a caring and professional manner, and the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Job Title: Health Care Assistant (HCA)

Hours: 22.5 hours per week (Monday, Tuesday and Friday)

Job Summary

The Health Care Assistant will work as part of the multidisciplinary team at Premier Medical Centre, supporting the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care to our practice population.

The post holder will undertake a range of clinical and administrative duties under the direction of the GPs and nursing team, ensuring that patients receive safe, effective and compassionate care. The role requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining high professional standards.

Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesClinical Duties
  • Undertake venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols.

  • Record blood pressure, pulse, height, weight and BMI measurements.

  • Perform NHS Health Checks.

  • Carry out new patient health assessments.

  • Undertake ECG recordings.

  • Perform simple wound care and dressings within competency levels.

  • Support vaccination and immunisation clinics where appropriately trained.

  • Undertake smoking cessation, lifestyle and health promotion activities.

  • Assist clinicians during procedures when required.

  • Chaperone patients in accordance with practice policy.

  • Collect and prepare specimens for laboratory testing.

  • Support chronic disease monitoring programmes under clinical supervision.

  • Recognise and report any abnormalities or concerns to the appropriate clinician.

Patient Care
  • Provide a professional, courteous and compassionate service to patients.

  • Promote patient dignity, privacy and confidentiality at all times.

  • Support patients to access appropriate services and health information.

  • Maintain effective communication with patients, carers and colleagues.

Administrative Duties
  • Accurately record clinical information within the practice clinical system.

  • Ensure all documentation is completed in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Manage clinical stock levels and report shortages.

  • Maintain clinical equipment and report faults as necessary.

  • Prepare and maintain treatment and consulting rooms.

Infection Prevention and Control
  • Adhere to infection prevention and control policies and procedures.

  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of clinical areas.

  • Safely dispose of clinical waste and sharps in accordance with practice guidelines.

  • Participate in infection control audits and training.

Team Working
  • Work collaboratively with GPs, nurses, pharmacists and administrative staff.

  • Participate in practice meetings and training sessions.

  • Support service improvement initiatives and quality improvement projects.

  • Contribute to a positive and supportive working environment.

Professional Development
  • Maintain mandatory training requirements.

  • Participate in appraisal and personal development processes.
