Job summary

We're looking for an experienced primary care healthcare assistant to join our growing clinical teams and support with providing a range of clinical services under the direction of our Practice Nurses and Doctors.

The successful candidate will be able to work effectively in a team and on their own initiative. They will be caring and compassionate, with a focus on patient experience and clinical safety.

They will be willing and able to support the wider clinical team with a range of clinical administration duties throughout the week and will proactively seek continuous professional development.

Main duties of the job

Working under the direct supervision of practice nurse and GP partners strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistance will assist the practice clinical team in the provision of patient care.

We are a friendly GP practice who are supported by a hard-working and committed team of Reception/Admin staff, performing their roles to the highest of standards whilst prioritising patient care and supporting each other.

The successful candidate will receive a training, annual appraisals and regular reviews with scope to further develop your existing skills and confidence within your role.

About us

Bean Medical Practice is a small practice based near Dudley town. We have a small team consisting of 2 partners, practice nurse, practice manager, 4 reception staff and a secretary

Job responsibilities

  • New patient health checks
  • NHS Health Checks
  • Annual health checks (e.g., for long-term condition review)
  • Basic observations (height, weight, blood pressure, temperature etc.)
  • ECGs
  • Injections (e.g., B12)
  • Restocking, ordering and maintaining clinical equipment
  • Assisting with minor surgical procedures
  • Chaperoning
  • Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses
  • Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
  • Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation
  • Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions, including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations
  • Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being
  • Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
  • Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Good standard of education including English & Maths
  • Completion of HCA Care Certificate
  • Up to date with statutory and mandatory eLearning

Desirable

  • NVQ Level 2/3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent

  • Previous experience of working as a HCA in primary care
  • Experience of undertaking annual health checks
  • Experience of carrying out ECGs
  • Experience of managing basic wound care

  • Experience of using SystmOne clinical system
  • Competent user of Microsoft Office software
