Westcliffe Health Innovations is seeking an experienced and motivated Band 7 Highly Specialised Cardiac Physiologist in Echocardiography to join our growing cardiology diagnostics service.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering a high-quality, patient-centred echocardiography service across multiple community sites. You will work autonomously, perform and report complex studies, and contribute to the development of an expanding and innovative cardiology service.

Main duties of the job

  • Independently perform and report a full range of transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE) to a high standard in line with BSE guidelines
  • Analyse and interpret complex echocardiographic investigations
  • Produce accurate, timely clinical reports to support patient management
  • Identify when additional or alternative investigations are required
  • Provide specialist clinical advice to cardiologists, GPs, and the wider MDT
  • Support and mentor junior staff and trainees
  • Participate in audit, quality assurance, and service development initiatives
  • Maintain equipment and ensure compliance with clinical governance and safety standards
  • Deliver high-quality, patient-centred care, maintaining dignity and privacy at all times

  • Deliver a high-quality, patient-centred echocardiography service, performing and reporting a full range of transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE) in line with professional (BSE) and departmental standards
  • Work as an autonomous practitioner, independently analysing, interpreting, and reporting complex and advanced echocardiographic studies to support accurate diagnosis and clinical decision-making
  • Provide specialist clinical advice to cardiologists, GPs, and the wider multidisciplinary team, including recommending further or alternative diagnostic investigations where appropriate
  • Contribute to the development and expansion of the echocardiography service, including potential introduction of advanced techniques such as contrast and stress echocardiography
  • Support clinical governance, audit, and quality assurance processes, ensuring continuous improvement and adherence to best practice guidelines
  • Act as a role model and mentor for junior physiologists, students, and trainees, supporting education, training, and professional development within the team
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team (MDT), contributing to effective patient pathways and integrated care delivery across community cardiology services
  • Ensure patient safety and high standards of care, including responding to emergency situations and maintaining dignity, privacy, and effective communication with all patients
  • Maintain professional competence and accreditation, engaging in continuous professional development (CPD) and staying up to date with advancements in echocardiography practice
  • Participate in the day-to-day operational delivery of the service across multiple sites, supporting flexible service provision and helping meet service demand
  • Person Specification

    Experience

    Essential

    • Significant post-qualification experience in adult echocardiography
    • Ability to independently perform and report complex echocardiograms
    • Experience as an independent practitioner across the range of routine and specialised investigations
    • Experience of raising issues for Clinical Governance where appropriate.
    • Evidence of leading or contributing to service improvement.
    • Experience of raising issues for Clinical Governance where appropriate.
    • Evidence of continued professional development
    • Experience of working with multidisciplinary teams

    Desirable

    • Experience managing or contributing to accreditation compliance (e.g., BSE, BHRS, UKAS frameworks).
    • Experience contributing to research, audit or quality improvement programmes
    • Experience in a formal leadership role within an NHS Hospital Trust
    • Experience of Improving Quality in Physiological Services (IQIPS) accreditation process

    Qualifications

    Essential

    • BSc (Hons) in Clinical Physiology (or equivalent)
    • AHCS/HCPC registration or equivalent
    • Accreditation in echocardiography (BSE) or equivalent high-level knowledge skills and experience
    • Evidence of ongoing CPD relevant to cardiac physiology

    Desirable

    • Master level degree or equivalent qualification in Healthcare Science
    • Intermediate Life Support
