Job summary

At present, University Hospitals of North Midlands is unable to offer visa sponsorship for Band 2 to Band 4 roles, as these positions do not meet the minimum salary and skill thresholds required under UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) regulations.

We are seeking Medical Laboratory Assistants to join our friendly and dedicated team in the Cellular Pathology Department at The Royal Stoke University Hospital.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will be required to perform a range of tasks within the Cellular Pathology Department in line with the Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs).Tasks will include sample receipt and preparation, data entry, operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment, and updating of information systems.
  • Ensure safe handling of specimens and clinical waste in line with Health and Safety procedures.
  • Monitor stock levels and maintain laboratory consumables.
  • Provide clerical and technical support to colleagues and Pathologists.
  • Adhere to the Pathology Quality Policy to deliver a high-quality service.
  • To be an efficient and flexible member of the laboratory team.

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • Good standard of education demonstrated by GCSE grades A-C in Maths and English.

Desirable

  • IBMS Certificate of Achievement Level 1

Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience

Essential

  • Base level theoretical knowledge of the role
  • Intermediate IT skill level
  • Good manual dexterity and hand-eye co-ordination
  • Communicates effectively & accurately with all levels of staff

Desirable

  • Ability to prioritise workload in response to service need
  • Experience of demonstrating tasks to others
  • Experience of working in the NHS
  • Data entry experience

Personal Qualities

Essential

  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Positive mindset in respect of supporting organisational change; learning, and continuous improvement.
