Job summary
Housekeeper, Band 2 (24 hours a week)
As a Housekeeper, you will work as a member of the Estates & Facilities Team. You will be specifically based on the Maternity Ward in the Women's Centre, however occasional redeployment to other departments within Maternity may sometimes be necessary.
Housekeepers will:
- Demonstrate a flexible attitude to their work to meet the needs of the service.
- Maintain a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness, as defined within the National Specification of Cleanliness.
- Prepares and present patient meals and beverages in inpatient areas in accordance with Food Hygiene procedures.
Main duties of the job
Service Delivery - Cleanliness
- Ensure the cleanliness of the environment in accordance with the National Specification of Cleanliness 2007 or equivalent and to the agreed work schedules. The post holder will clean all areas of the Maternity Ward using a range of methods e.g. High dusting, damp dusting, vacuuming and mopping, in line with the NHS Cleaning Manual.
- Be responsible for maintaining and replenishing stocks of consumable items used within the department, i.e.: paper hand towels, soap, in a safe and responsible manner.
- Adhere to all aspects of Infection Control in all areas of work, including the use of colour coded equipment to ensure there is no spread of infection.
- Follow local procedures for reporting areas cleaned and highlighting issues which have prevented duties being carried out.
- Undertake enhanced cleaning duties under the direction of the Facilities Supervisor.

Qualifications
Essential
- Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate
- Good literacy skills
Desirable
- NVQ Level 1 in Hospitality & Catering or equivalent
- NVQ Level 1 in Cleaning & Support Services or equivalent qualification or experience
Knowledge and Skills
Essential
- Basic understanding of cleaning and catering procedures
- Knowledge and understanding of the importance of food hygiene and safety
- Ability to work flexibly within a team
- Understanding of safe manual handling techniques and procedures
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
- Good time management skills
Desirable
- Knowledge and understanding of COSHH (TRAINING GIVEN)
