Job summary

The post holder will provide professional leadership to a team of medicines management technicians across the Norfolk localities. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, including pharmacists, nursing and medical staff, the post holder will ensure the safe, effective and efficient use of medicines for service users.

The role includes accuracy checking, leading on medicines reconciliation, medication supply processes and discharge support, as well as contributing to clinical governance activities including audit, training and service improvement. The post holder will have responsibility for line management, supervision and development of pharmacy technicians and assistants, ensuring high standards of practice and compliance with relevant legislation, policies and professional standards.

This post is based within our West Norfolk, and Great Yarmouth and Waveney localities and will be based in Norwich. The post holder will be required to work across all localities, visiting sites on a regular basis to ensure service quality, consistency and oversight.

Main duties of the job

  • Lead the delivery, development and continuous improvement of the medicines optimisation technician service within designated clinical areas.
  • Support service users with medicines education and adherence in line with a recovery-focused approach, including safe and timely discharge.
  • Provide day-to-day line management, supervision and professional support to pharmacy technicians and assistants.
  • Deliver and coordinate medicines management training for nursing, pharmacy and wider healthcare staff.
  • Contribute to the induction, training and ongoing development of pharmacy staff.
  • Work in partnership with senior pharmacy leadership team to deliver service improvement initiatives, manage defined projects or workstreams, and achieve agreed outcomes.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with GPhC
  • Relevant postqualification education/training (e.g., Accuracy Checking Technician, Medicines Management, Leadership courses)

Desirable

  • Medicines Management/ Optimisation Technician Qualification
  • Leadership Qualification (or willing to work towards)

Experience

Essential

  • Significant post qualification experience as a pharmacy technician, including in a clinical setting
  • Experience supervising or managing staff and managing rotas
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience in delivering medicines management or optimisation services

Desirable

  • Experience of supporting training and education of others

Knowledge

Essential

  • Awareness of governance, risk management, and incident reporting procedures
