Job summary

The key function is to support NHS Property Services in delivering building services maintenance and repairs across the NHS to ensure buildings are maintained to the highest standards and to provide a safe and secure environment for visitors, customers, and employees.

Main duties of the job

Ensure compliance in line with all processes/procedures and policies that meets organisational standards/requirements including but not limited to our Health & Safety Policy/HTMs (Health Technical Memoranda) and SFG20. Undertake routine planned and reactive maintenance service as instructed by the Team Leader, ensuring that operational standards are maintained at all times. To also support the work that is included in minor work. Undertake routine repairs or minor works including joinery, painting and decoration, general building works, ground works or general plumbing. To maintain effective site log books at all NHS premises ensuring that they are completed in a timely and accurate manner. Support the Projects/Construction team and Team Leader in delivering minor capital works to NHS premises. Complete suitable risk assessments prior to undertaking works and undertake works as per instructions within any relevant permit or work plan. Understand the principles of fire risk assessment and relevant precautions within the workplace.

We now have an opportunity for a skilled and reliable Maintenance Operative (Fabric) to join our team covering healthcare properties across South Yorkshire on a permanent contract. About the Role As a Maintenance Operative (Fabric), you will deliver planned and reactive fabric maintenance services across a range of NHS properties throughout South Yorkshire. Working on a mobile basis, you will undertake a variety of carpentry, joinery and general building maintenance activities, helping to ensure our estate remains safe, compliant and welcoming for patients, visitors and colleagues. This is a mobile role based from Mexborough Health centre, with travel required across South Yorkshire. A company van and tools will be provided. Salary starts from £30,000 per annum plus on call allowance Who You Are You are an experienced fabric maintenance professional with a background in carpentry and joinery. You are practical, dependable and take pride in delivering high-quality work. You have a multi-skilled approach to maintenance and are comfortable working independently across multiple healthcare sites. Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver planned and reactive fabric maintenance services across NHS Property Services sites.
  • Carry out carpentry, joinery and general building fabric repairs.
  • Undertake minor repairs, installations and maintenance tasks across healthcare properties.
  • Diagnose and rectify faults within building fabric and associated components.
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with NHS Property Services procedures.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and complete relevant documentation.
  • Travel between sites across South Yorkshire as required.
  • Report incidents, hazards, faulty equipment or maintenance issues using agreed processes.
  • Can handle routine tasks and social interactions within a work environment. Ability to absorb policy and guidance necessary for the role.
  • Hours and Working Pattern
  • 37.5 hours per week.
  • Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm.
  • Due to the mobile nature of this role, applicants must hold a full UK driving licence. A company van and tools will be provided. Essential Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 2 in Carpentry & Joinery (minimum requirement).
  • Experience within a fabric maintenance, carpentry, joinery or building maintenance environment.
  • Multi-skilled maintenance experience.
  • Full UK driving licence.

    Person Specification

    Qualifications

    Essential

    • NVQ Level 2 or higher BTEC/City & Guilds or equivalent.
    • Formal apprenticeship or craft trained equivalent.
    • Full UK Driving Licence.

    Experience

    Essential

    • Previous experience working within a buildings maintenance environment.
    • Previous experience of undertaking minor works and repairs.
    • Working within the requirements of method statements or permit to work.
    • Experience maintaining services to SFG20
