Pre-operative assessment involves the clinical evaluation of patients to ensure they are optimised both physically and mentally before elective surgery. The unit plays a key role in reducing avoidable cancellations due to medical reasons and is an essential part of delivering high-quality care.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated, and flexible experienced nurse who embodies the Trust's values and is committed to achieving the best outcomes and experiences for patients. The successful candidate will lead clinics and manage a daily caseload, demonstrating a flexible approach to work, strong communication skills, and a commitment to continuous learning and professional development within a specialist area, working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team.
This is a nurse-led service with anaesthetic support throughout the week. The post holder will require excellent communication and leadership skills, the ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team, and the capacity to perform effectively under pressure. A strong clinical knowledge base and high level of motivation are essential.
Main duties of the job
- Provides expert, autonomous clinical leadership for preoperative assessment and management of elective surgical patients, including high-risk and complex cases
- Leads and deliversnurse-led pre-admission and preoperative assessment services across surgical specialties
- Developsintegrated, patient-centred preoperative pathways to improve quality, safety, and timeliness of care
- Offersprofessional leadership and specialist consultancy to multidisciplinary teams across the Trust
- Drivesservice development, innovation, and quality improvement, addressing health inequalities and complex patient needs
- Leadseducation, training, and competency development for preoperative assessment staff
- Promotes and contributes toevidence-based practice, audit, and research
- Ensures compliance withprofessional, governance, and Trust standards, including NMC code, safety, and equality policies

- Registered Practitioner
- MSc Advanced Practice or Clinical Leadership, or equivalent experience
- Leadership and Management course/module

- Up to date knowledge of current professional and clinical issues.
- Up to date knowledge of preoperative assessment issues and development
Experience

- At least 5 years post registration experience with at least 2 years experience at AfC Band 7 or above.
