Job summary
Guy's & St Thomas' Theatres, Anaesthesia and Peri-operative medicine (TAP) is offering a full time position to join the leadership team as Matron. The Matron for TAP is a senior nursing leader responsible for delivering safe, effective, and high-quality patient care. The post holder will provide visible, compassionate leadership, acting as a professional role model and ensuring consistently high standards of clinical practice and patient experience within a fast-paced, complex environment
Main duties of the job
Working within the TAP leadership team, the Matron will support and develop multidisciplinary staff, promoting a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and patient-centred care. They will have operational oversight of the department, including patient flow, workforce deployment, and performance against key targets. They will work with others to transform services to meet the complex demands of the department and wider Trust.The role includes leading on quality, safety, and governance, ensuring compliance with national standards and regulatory requirements, including those of the Care Quality Commission. The post holder will contribute to risk and incident management, will maintain infection control standards and participate in clinical audit.The Matron will lead workforce development, supporting education, well being, and retention to maintain a skilled and resilient team.

Person Specification
Qualifications / Education
Essential
- RN Adult Registered Nurse on the NMC register. ODP on the HCPC register
- Broad clinical experience relevant to the post
- A proven track record of operational service management at a senior level in an acute hospital environment, including staff management, financial management and change management.
- Evidence of equivalent knowledge and experience to Masters level.
Desirable
- A Masters level qualification in nursing or a post graduate qualification is desirable but not essential.
Previous experience
Essential
- Ability to think and plan strategically, tactically and creatively, and to prioritise work programs in the face of competing demands.
- A strong sense of personal and team accountability coupled with a clear understanding of the boundaries around delegated authority.
- A good understanding of the changing NHS environment.
Skills/Knowledge/Ability
Essential
- Well developed leadership and influencing skills with the ability to enthuse, motivate and involve individuals and teams, and have them understand the Trust's and your performance expectations.
- A commitment to improving patient services through an ability to sustain a clear performance focus on achieving demanding goals
- Excellent inter-personal and communication skills with good listening skills.
- High level of work organisation, self-motivation, drive for performance and improvement, and flexibility in approach and attitude.
