Job summary
A vacancy has arisen for a full-time B5 Medical Assistant trainee to join the North Cumbria In-Patients Service at Carleton Clinic, Carlisle, Cumbria.
We are looking for applicants for this post to work alongside an allocated Consultant and the ward's medical team to support them in their management of the patient pathway, ensuring all necessary information and resources are available in a timely manner, and that administrative information flows without repetition or delay.
The successful candidate will be required to undertake academic and hands on training.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will:
- capture and manage patient information live (during appointments or meetings) on the relevant IT systems
- prepare clinical documentation including Mental Health Act documentation under the supervision of the responsible clinician in line with Trust policy
- work directly with patients using rating scales, assessing treatments and other inventions
- work with patients with a focus on enabling recovery
- provide data and information to improve, inform and support delivery of care
The post holder will be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills and should be able to work well within a team
The post holder will be educated to a degree level in relevant subject or equivalent level of experience working at a similar level in specialist area and have an understanding of the Mental Health Act
The post holder is required to have Word Processing skills at Level 3 (or equivalent), and a working knowledge of Microsoft packages and patient information systems (RIO). An audio typing qualification or demonstrable equivalent experience and note taking skills are desirable

Education and Qualification
Essential
- Education to a degree level in relevant subject or equivalent level of experience or skills working at a similar level in specialist area with evidence of required competencies achieved
- Word Processing skills at Level 3 (e.g. /RSA Lev 3 or the equivalent
Desirable
- Qualifications (s) in relevant subjects plus relevant experience)
- Audio Typing qualification or demonstrable equivalent experience
- Note taking skills.
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
- Knowledge of administrative procedures, project management or information analysis
Desirable
- Basic knowledge of quality management and improvement
