Job summary
To provide a specialised, comprehensive and confidential clinical administration and secretarial service to Plastic Surgery Consultants and their teams. The post holder will deliver a high-quality, patient-centred service in accordance with Trust, departmental and national standards.
This role is ideal for an experienced Medical Secretary with strong typing expertise and a thorough understanding of clinical correspondence standards, looking to contribute to a busy and patient-focused Plastic Surgery service.
This is a busy and demanding role within a high-volume specialty. The post holder must be able to work effectively under pressure, particularly in managing short-notice cancer pathway targets and urgent clinicalpriorities.

Main duties of the job
- Provide full secretarial support to consultants and ensure all clinical documentation is up to date
- Accurately type and format clinical letters, reports and general correspondence to a high standard within agreed timescales.
- Demonstrate a strong working knowledge of the required structure and layout of clinical letters, ensuring all correspondence meet Trust standards.
- Use MModal transcribe software to understand complex medical terminology accurately.

Job responsibilities
- Manage outpatient and inpatient waiting lists in line with local and national targets (including 28 day 31/62 cancer pathway targets).
- Liaise with Booking Centre, Patient Access, Theatres and Ward teams to ensure smooth coordination of the patient pathway.
- Schedule clinics, surgical procedures and admissions, maximising service efficiency and theatre utilisation.

Qualifications
Essential
- oECDL or equivalent. oNVQ3 in Administration or equivalent. oRSA/OCR III or equivalent typing/word oProcessing including audio typing. oKey Skills level 2 Literacy or equivalent. oGCSE Grade B/5 or above in English (or equivalent qualification), demonstrating a high standard of written and spoken English
Desirable
- oAdditional training in medical terminology. oEvidence of continuing professional development
Experience

- oExperience at Secretary level or trainee. oExperience of managing complex workloads and resolving work-related issues independently. oDecision making and resolving complex work-related issues.

- oExperience in software MModal oElectronic Patient Records (EPR) oPrevious NHS experience.

- oThorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel. oExcellent understanding of general office procedures and administrative systems. oUnderstanding of confidentiality, data protection and information governance.
