Job summary
We are seeking a motivated, organised, and patient-focused Medical Secretary/ Receptionist to join our friendly and supportive GP practice team. This is a varied role combining reception and medical secretarial duties, providing essential administrative support to ensure the smooth running of the practice and the delivery of high-quality patient care.
The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator with strong organisational skills, the ability to work under pressure, and a professional, confidential approach to their work. Previous experience in a GP practice or NHS setting is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
Providing a professional and welcoming reception service to patients and visitors.
Answering telephone calls and responding to patient enquiries in a courteous and efficient manner.
Booking, amending, and cancelling appointments using the clinical system.
Processing referrals, including urgent Two Week Wait (2WW) referrals, in line with practice and NHS guidelines.
Managing incoming hospital correspondence and ensuring patient results and documentation are processed appropriately.
Processing Advice and Guidance (A&G) requests.
Arranging and coordinating patient follow-up appointments.
Taking accurate minutes at practice meetings and distributing them as required.
Providing administrative and secretarial support to GPs and the wider clinical team.
Maintaining accurate electronic patient records while ensuring compliance with GDPR, confidentiality, and information governance policies.
Working collaboratively with colleagues to provide a high standard of patient care and support the efficient running of the practice.
