Job summary

The position forms part of the Trusts Pharmacy Procurement and Distribution Department, providing purchasing, contracting, inventory management, receipt, storage and distribution services for approximately £350m of annualised spend for a range of medicines. Whilst there is no direct budget management the post holder will be expected to understand the Trusts budgeting process and the allocation of cost mechanism. Assist the Operations Manager in the management of all medicines Supply Services, including implementation and ongoing support. Negotiates appropriate staff transfers to reflect work activity within the department, and to expand the service to other products and functions. It is expected that a significant reduction in the levels of inventory that the Trust currently holds can be achieved through a collaborative approach between inventory management and purchasing. The post holder will work closely with the Operations Manager, procurement lead and store supervisors to identify opportunities and improve supply chain effectiveness.

Main duties of the job

Under the direction of the Operations Manager to assist and deputise for the provision of a total medicines Supply management process, with specific emphasis on Warehouse utilisation, receipt distribution and continuity of supply. Assist the Operations Manager with the responsibility for all matters relating to the medicines supply route for products within the organisation by determining the appropriate delivery method into the Trust. Manage the introduction of new products as appropriate, ensuring regulatory compliance. Promote the use of a warehouse management system throughout the warehouse portfolio, negotiate the service provision with customers as appropriate and deploy the service as required. Assist with the management, formulation, development and implementation of local policies along with the Operations Manager and colleagues from the Senior Management team, where these relate to the supply chain and inventory management to internal and external customers. What you will bring to the role

Degree plus Advanced Diploma in Procurement & Supply and membership of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply

OR

Recognised qualification in pharmacy / medicines management and significant relevant experience and knowledge of MHRA Good Distribution Practice equivalent to degree level with evidence of further specialist training

Provides local assurance and accountability that warehouse operations are undertaken in accordance with Good Distribution Practice (GDP. )Working with the Operations manager to be responsible for the distribution route for products within the organisation, reviewing with customers the most appropriate route for product delivery, liaising with clinical colleagues

Support the introduction of new technology and inventory management systems, segment customers to provide an integrated demand management system. Demand Management will reflect the total product requirements of customers irrespective of the supply route.Report formally on implementations and record key process indicators following implementation.

Professional approach to all aspects of work, in particular the adoption of the Ethical Code of Conduct and the Trust's Code of Conduct and to be accountable for such behaviour. Hard working, flexible to the demands of customers and committed to the outcomes required by the Organisation and Department.
