Petersgate Medical Centre is a friendly, forward-thinking, well-established training practice based in North Doncaster.
We are seeking a reliable and compassionate Phlebotomist to join our friendly clinical team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced individual, although training can be provided for the right candidate, to support patient care by delivering a high-quality blood collection service
Hours: 16 per week, worked over 5 days. Our open blood clinics run from 8:00am to 10:30am, with additional time allocated for administrative duties. The role may also be considered as a job share.
Main duties of the job
The post requires you to be flexible and responsive to varying demands and changing circumstances. Strong communication skills, teamwork, a motivated and hardworking attitude, and enthusiasm are essential qualities for success in this role.
Previous experience in a healthcare environment is desirable; however, full training will be provided. Flexibility to cover additional hours for holidays and sickness is essential.

We are an enthusiastic, friendly, and supportive team providing care for approximately 9,500 patients. The health and wellbeing of our patients is our highest priority, and we are committed to delivering excellent care and service at all times.
We are a recognised training practice with two GP trainers (including the local GP Training Scheme Programme Director) and one Associate Trainer/F2 trainer. We currently support nine trainees and are proud of our strong culture of learning, development, and teamwork.
Job responsibilities
JOB TITLE: Phlebotomist
DEPARTMENT: Clinical team
Reports to: Lead Nurse
Job Summary:
- Preform venepuncture safely and effectively across a diverse patient group
- Ensure patient comfort, dignity, and confidentiality at all times
- Accurately label and process blood samples
- Maintain equipment and follow infection prevention procedures
- Work collaboratively with clinicians, nurses, and administrative staff
- Manage workload efficiently in a busy environment
Other Tasks
- Ensure building security is maintained.
- Any other tasks allocated by Senior Administrators/Practice Manager
Confidentiality:
- In the course of seeking treatment, patients entrust us with, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters. They do so in confidence and have the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately
- In the performance of the duties outlined in this job description, the post-holder may have access to confidential information relating to patients and their carers, practice staff and other healthcare workers. They may also have access to information relating to the practice as a business organisation. All such information from any source is to be regarded as strictly confidential
- Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the practice may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the practice policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data
Health & safety:
The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others health, safety and security as defined in the practice health & safety policy, the practice health & safety manual, and the practice infection control policy and published procedures. This will include:
- Using personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines
- Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks
- Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills
- Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards
- Actively reporting of health and safety hazards and infection hazards immediately when recognised
- Keeping own work areas and general/patient areas generally clean, assisting in the maintenance of general standards of cleanliness consistent with the scope of the job holders role
- Undertaking periodic infection control training (minimum annually)
- Reporting potential risks identified

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
- Good educational background.
Desirable
- Qualified phlebotomist
Experience
Essential
- Experience in phlebotomy is preferred; however, full training can be provided
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Basic IT skills
- Understanding of patient safety and infection control
Desirable
- Experience in a GP practice or NHS setting
- Knowledge of SystmOne clinical systems
