Shift Pattern - 10am-10pm x 4, 4 off repeated
Main duties of the job
- To provide a portering service to all wards & departments. To escort and convey patients by wheelchair, bed or trolley.
- To distribute food trolleys and boxes - and food items.
- To transfer various specimens or bloods to the pathology department andother wards and departments.
- To collect prescriptions and drug books from wards and departments and deliver them to the Pharmacy department.
- To move & change medical gas cylinders as requested.
- To attend fire calls.
- To assist at cardiac arrests.
- To transport records, X-rays, furniture, equipment and materials.
- To undertake mortuary duties as required - viewings, BID's.
- To report any suspicious incidents and assist, where necessary.
- When required, assist with low level security requests.
- To cover staff in the post room - sorting incoming and outgoing Mail - distribute to all wards and departments.
- To collect general clinical, waste - cytotoxic refuse and sharp boxes from all areas on site, if required.
- Attends mandatory training courses.
- Ensure that when a deceased patient is transported from the ward they are treated with due dignity and respect.
- Operate a communication device to keep in touch with other staff in the department.
- Attendance at all sessions is mandatory, these include moving & handling, resuscitation, infection control, clinical governance, fire training and Dealing with Conflict training. Training in safe handling of medical gases.
- Training in safe handling of all medical gases/ safe handling of liquid nitrogen.

- Booking taxis when needed & keeping clear records of requests for taxis especially the full name of the person who has authorised it.
- Attendance at all sessions is mandatory, these include: moving & handling, resuscitation, infection control, clinical governance, fire training and dealing with Conflict training. Training in safe handling of medical gases, Training in safe handling of all medical gases/ safe handling of liquid nitrogen.
