Fernley Medical Centre is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Salaried GP to join our friendly, supportive and forward-thinking team.
We are a long-established practice in the heart of Sparkhill, Birmingham, providing high-quality healthcare to a diverse patient population. Rated Good by the CQC , we are proud to be a high QOF-achieving training practice for both GP Registrars and Allied Health Professionals.

Main duties of the job
Main Duties of the Role
The successful candidate will work alongside our multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care in accordance with GMC and RCGP standards.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing comprehensive primary care services to patients
- Managing a varied and interesting clinical caseload
- Undertaking routine GP consultations and clinical decision-making
- Contributing to chronic disease management and preventative healthcare
- Working collaboratively with the wider primary care team
- Supporting quality improvement initiatives and service development
- Participating in clinical meetings and educational activities
There will also be opportunities to:
- Lead on specific clinical areas and long-term condition management
- Support staff education and prescribing initiatives
- Contribute to Directed Enhanced Services (DES)

Job responsibilities
The post-holder will manage a patient caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.
Main Purpose of Job:
To support the partners in the Practice to manage a busy, interesting clinical caseload. The appointee will also have the opportunity to take part in leading on key disease areas (monitoring trends in treatment, staff training and prescribing) and assist in developing appropriate healthcare services for a diverse suburban patient list; including Directed Enhanced Services commissioning, patient participation and health promotion.

Main tasks of job:
Clinical Responsibilities
1) In accordance with the Practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork, referrals and correspondence in a timely manner.
2) Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the Practice.
3) Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
4) Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
5) In consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health.
6) Providing counselling and health education.
7) Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate.
8) Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
9) Collecting data for audit purposes.
10) Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible).
11) Prescribing in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate.
12) Ensuring that all work carried out which carries a private fee is properly recouped and accounted for; e.g. Medical Reports, Insurance reports, Private letters to third Parties etc.
13) In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
Other responsibilities within the practice:
1) Awareness of and compliance with all relevant Practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety.
2) A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice.
3) Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the Practice.
4) Contributing to the development of computer-based patient records.
5) Contributing to the summarising of patient records and accurate Read-Coding of patient data.
6) Attending training and events organised by the Practice or other agencies, where appropriate.
7) Mentor additional roles within the practice.

You are required to uphold the Companys data protection policies when dealing with information about patients, carers, colleagues, other healthcare workers. Our work is of highly confidential nature and information gained must not be communicated to other persons except in the recognised course of duty. Unauthorised disclosure of confidential information will result in disciplinary action and may lead to your dismissal.
Information relating to customers, colleagues, other workers or the business of the Practice may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the Practice policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and special category data.

1) Using personal security systems within the workplace according to Practice guidelines.
2) Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks.
3) Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills.
4) Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards.
5) Reporting potential risks identified.
