Job summary

The Birches Medical Centre is a busy, family-focused, innovative and hard-working practice. There is a diverse patient population of around 4000 patients.

The practice offers comprehensive general medical services either directly or through local commissioning arrangements to the local population including:

Contraceptive and sexual health services

Phlebotomy

Diabetic, asthma, COPD, heart condition, stroke and other chronic illness clinics and support

Maternity and health visiting services

Care home visiting [as part of a wider Network arrangement] Travel health Immunisation and vaccination clinics

The Birches Medical Centre is a GMS Practice and under the management of BARDOC Limited..

Main duties of the job

Managing a caseload and dealing with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients on the Practice list.

The Practice's aim is to offer a more personalised, coordinated health and social care to the local population.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Qualified GP MRCGP Vocational Training Certificate or Equivalent General Practitioner;
  • On Medical Performers List;
  • Willing to undertake continuous personal development and ongoing mandatory training modules.

Desirable

  • Evidence of continued professional development;
  • Experience of appraisal in practice or other healthcare setting; Additional clinical skills beyond General Practice.

Aptitude and Abilities

Essential

  • Willingness to share and collaborate across entire primary health team - Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with multidisciplinary and multiagency teams Ability to work flexibly and with a facilitative approach Ability to recognise own limitations and act upon them appropriately Willingness to learn new skills and to problem solve on a daily basis An understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality Ability to work within the changing structures of the NHS and work to the requirements of other regulatory bodies Excellent communication skills, recognising peoples needs for alternative methods of communication and able to respond accordingly Ability to deal with sensitive information in a tactful way

Desirable

  • Ability to input to strategic and practice development requirements Ability to challenge traditional models of working and to suggest improvements for change in a positive and inclusive manner

Experience

Essential

  • Chronic disease management Primary prevention and screening services Clinical Governance Delivery of QOF targets Self-audit and reflection Organised and efficient in record keeping and completion of paperwork Time management: being able to prioritise work and work under pressure Computer literacy including clinical system insight, Microsoft word and email use

Desirable

  • Vision EMIS Web Docman Patient triage systems Service Development experience and knowledge
