Job Summary The Oncology Research team is recruiting! The R&I CSU is continuing its exciting expansion, and the GI/GC and Sarcoma research portfolio is looking for a Senior Clinical Trials Assistant. It is a full time post (1.0 WTE), with a permanent contract. This post will be based at SJUH, although cross site cover may be required. The post holder will contribute actively to the conduct, coordination, and delivery of the Research Portfolio. The main tasks are: Supporting and acting as an assistant to the Research Nurses, liaising with all internal and external parties involved in the setting up, maintenance and closure of research studies. Assisting with administrative aspects of clinical research/trials management, and interacting with patients and their families in relation to the requirements of the research study, and be able to work without supervision in some areas. A key component of the post is to carry out the informed consent process with patients as appropriate and following specific training. The role will also include some clinical skills such as taking clinical observations, venepuncture, taking electrocardiography (ECG) tracings and processing clinical samples, in addition to being responsible for maintaining high standards of clinical care planning, delivery, safety, and patient satisfaction. Why you should join our Team We are looking to recruit a proactive and self-motivated individual with a keen interest in research to work within team 2a. The team currently consists of one B7 Team Leader, x3 B6 Research nurses and has the support of x2 B5 Treatment delivery nurses. We work collaboratively with our colleagues in Oncology Research and manage an active and busy portfolio of studies. We are keen to add to our team and the post holder will be supported by their colleagues and provided with opportunity to develop their skills. The team are very patient centred, and work closely together in order to provide their patients with the best experience they can. What you will bring to the roleWe are looking to recruit a proactive and self-motivated individual with a keen interest in research to work within team 2a. The post holder will be required to work alongside industry partners, the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Network (CRN) Yorkshire and Humber (Y&H) and colleagues in neighbouring establishments, attending local and potentially, national meetings, as required, and will assist in the evaluation of patient eligibility, in liaison with other appropriate health care professionals for clinical trial entry. This will involve the co-ordination of tests, obtaining results and arranging transport and documentation of specific specimens as per clinical trial protocols. They will also assist the Research Nurses in the two Research specific clinics for GI patients, and may have opportunity to manage their own portfolio of studies. Whilst existing clinical skills are not essential, you must be willing to undertake the appropriate training to gain competency in these areas. Experience of data entry and other admin related Research tasks are desirable.
