Job summary

We are looking for Senior Dialysis Assistant to work at the King's Dartford Dialysis Unit in Kent.

We are a 12 stationed haemodialysis Unit providing dialysis for 72 patients.

You will support the nurses in delivering safe haemodialysis treatment to patients living with kidney failure.

The role focuses on providing direct patient care before, during and after treatment while ensuring equipment and the dialysis environment are safe and prepared.

Shifts:

Long Day - 06:30-18:30hours

Long Day Late - 10:30 - 22:30 hours

Early - 06:30-14:30 hours

Late - 14:30-22:30 Hours

Work 2 Long Days and 2 short days per week. Rotate every 1-2 months 5 day week.

High-Cost Living allowance (HCA) = 5%

Main duties of the job

Haemodialysis specific responsibilities: To safely prepare dialysis machines for treatment using all equipment as per patient's dialysis prescriptionTo monitor and record in the Trust's Electronic Patients records System patient's clinical observations, as requested by a Registered NurseTo dispose of all HD circuit lines following infection control guidelinesTo decontaminate dialysis equipment following infection control guidelines and document using the HD decontamination checklistTo support with checking in/discharge patients for treatment

To participate in maintaining standards of hygiene, cleanliness and infection control, reporting problems as appropriateTo ensure that equipment is clean at all times, stored safely when not in use and report faults as appropriateTo assist in setting up and preparing patient areas appropriately to the clinical area.To ensure that stock levels of linen (where applicable), sterile supplies and stationery are maintained at all times in conjunction with the senior sister/ward receptionist.To assist in the maintenance and safekeeping of patients property in line with Trust policyTo assist ward staff with general collection/delivery of items necessary to ensure effective operational management of ward/departmentTo assist in performing the last offices as requested

Job responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities: To work under guidance from a registered healthcare professional, following instructions and promptly reporting any problems.You will be able to perform the following:To assist patients with activities of daily living whilst encouraging independence, as appropriateTo monitor and record in EPIC patients clinical observations, as requested by a Registered NurseUndertake electrocardiogram (ECG) recording and point of care testing (e.g. bloodsugar, urinalysis) as per training and competencies assessmentTo assist with patient nutritional needs eating, drinking, menu selection, meal delivery and special diets according to the individual patients needsTo assist in the maintenance of up to date, comprehensive and accurate records in accordance with legal requirements

Customer Care/Administration: To ensure that all patients and relatives are welcomed and orientated to the ward environmentTo assist with the care of distressed or bereaved relativesTo assist with clerical and ward administrative duties, including data management, photocopying, transporting of equipment/data/ paperwork to other departmentsTo provide clear and effective information and communication, both verbally and in documentation. Promptly referring enquiries to the relevant personTo maintain confidentiality at all times, in and out of the hospital environmentTo demonstrate an awareness of the different cultural, ethnic and religious believes

Personal and Professional Responsibilities: To adhere to, and work within the code of conduct for clinical support workers at Kings College HospitalTo be able to identify with support own development needs, completing a competency document and learning objectives within a specified time frame and as agreed by managerTo ensure own attendance at mandatory study days and training ( BLS, manual handling etc.) as required by ward/departmental managerTo update skills and knowledge as required by the TrustTo actively participate in annual individual performance review

Education: To be involved in teaching and education programs within the unitBe involved in HD shared activities within the unitTo participate in reflection and clinical supervision as provided

Leadership: To adhere to, and work within the National Code of Conduct for clinical support workers at Kings College HospitalTo manage an agreed workload with supervision and support from colleagues and senior staffTo work within and support the multidisciplinary team, contributing ideas toward future developments

To act as a liaison with specialist teams and services as a link practitioner enhancing communication and collaborative working by attending meetings and disseminating relevant information (via face to face teaching and written/digital briefings
