Job summary

The post holder will provide clinical leadership, facilitate professional development, and carry continuing overall responsibility for the management and co-ordination of nursing care provision on the NNU - to ensure a high standard of care is delivered effectively and efficiently within available resources.

Main duties of the job

The Senior Neonatal Sister works as part of the multidisciplinary team, liaising with professionals who impact on the care and management of patients, creating and maintaining a positive learning environment to maximise the full potential of staff.

Adult and paediatric community services, provided in collaboration with West Suffolk Alliance partners, include a range of nursing, therapy, specialist, and ongoing temporary care and rehabilitation, some at our Newmarket Community Hospital.

Education and qualifications

Essential

  • Registered RN/RSCN/RM
  • Personal/professional development at degree level
  • ENB 405 (QIS) or equivalent
  • Mentorship qualification

Desirable

  • NIPE
  • Non-medical prescriber
  • Leadership course
  • Evidence of continual professional development

Experience and knowledge

Essential

  • Post-registration experience at band 6
  • Demonstrate the ability to meet trust values
  • Able to facilitate and assess the professional development
  • Able to act as a specialist advisor to team members and other professional groups in formal and informal settings
  • Previous experience and involvement in research or audit
  • Knowledge of change management
  • Clear understanding of national recommendations in neonatal care
  • Experience of the development of others
  • Knowledge and experience of risk management
  • Understanding of complaint management
  • Experience of data collection and analysis
  • Experience of co-ordinating a neonatal environment
