Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) to join the Rotherham Memory Service and Community Mental Health Team.

This is a rewarding role at the forefront of dementia care, supporting individuals experiencing memory concerns through assessment, diagnosis, treatment and post diagnosis support. The post holder will work as part of a skilled multidisciplinary team, delivering high-quality, person-centred care to patients and their carers.

You will play a key role in the delivery of memory assessments, providing expert guidance and support, and contributing to service development and innovation.

Main duties of the job

You'll be at the heart of our service, delivering expert, person-centred care:

  • Conducting comprehensive memory assessments and cognitive testing
  • Delivering diagnoses with compassion and clarity
  • Supporting patients and carers through education, guidance and ongoing care
  • Managing your own caseload with autonomy and clinical judgement
  • Working as a non-medical prescriber or developing into this role
  • Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team and external partners
  • Contributing to service improvement, teaching and innovation

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN).
  • Current NMC registration.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).
  • Non-Medical Prescribing Qualification (V300) or willingness to undertake within an agreed timeframe.
  • Teaching/mentorship qualification.

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field (e.g. dementia care, mental health, older people's services).
  • Leadership or management training.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with older adults and/or people with dementia or cognitive impairment.
  • Experience of undertaking comprehensive mental health assessments.
  • Experience of care planning, risk assessment and case management
  • Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of supervising/mentoring students or junior staff.
  • Experience of maintaining accurate clinical records.

Desirable

  • Experience of communicating complex and sensitive information to patients and carers
  • Experience within a Memory Service or Community Mental Health Team.
  • Experience of delivering a diagnosis of dementia
  • Experience of non-medical prescribing.
  • Experience of audit, service evaluation or quality improvement

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of dementia, including assessment, diagnosis, progression and management.
  • Understanding of mental health conditions affecting older adults.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g. Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, safeguarding).
  • Understanding of risk assessment and management
  • Knowledge of clinical governance and evidence-based practice.
  • Awareness of medication used in dementia care.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of current national policies and guidance relating to dementia care (e.g. NICE guidelines).
  • Understanding of service development and quality improvement methodologies.

Skills

Essential

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and make sound clinical decisions
  • Strong assessment, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise a caseload effectively.
