Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse (West Ward - Haematology)
West ward is a Haematology day unit that operates Mondays-Fridays 08:00-18:00 excluding bank holidays.
The department is looking for an enthusiastic, forward-thinking, and motivated Chemotherapy trained nurse to join our team as a Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse.
The skilled practitioner will be responsible for delivering patient-focused programmes of care that address the complex and changing health and well-being needs of patients with haematology-related conditions.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide high quality essential care to patients with haematology conditions in a caring, compassionate and sensitive manner.
The post holder will:
- Provide high-quality clinical practice. Be proactive in clinical decision making, underpinned by theoretical and practical knowledge and be able to demonstrate improved patient care outcomes.
- Administer Chemotherapy treatment to Haematology patients.
- Take designated responsibility for discrete areas of operational management/clinical practice.
- Support change, monitor and improve standards through supervision, evidence-based practice, clinical audit, research, and education. To promote and demonstrate best practice by integrating evidence into practice.
- Undertake holistic assessment of patients and carers' needs. This will involve planning, implementing, and evaluating care delivery in response to changing healthcare needs.
- Demonstrate sound knowledge in relation to patterns of Haematology service, markers of condition progression and the range of treatment available at each stage of the condition.

Experience
Essential
- Significant post qualification experience with knowledge in Haematology/cancer care
- Demonstrates ability to place patient and family at centre of care
Desirable
- Experience of involvement in successful change management
- Ability to work unsupervised and on own initiative, as well as part of a multidisciplinary team
Qualifications
Essential
- Registered Nurse
- Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) Trained or evidence of undertaking course
Desirable
- Specialist post-graduate education / Qualifications, or training relevant to Haematology
- Other training relevant to area of clinical practice PICC line care
