Job summary

35 hours per week

Providing a site assistant service for Cumberland Centre. Maintaining a high standard of cleanliness, tidiness and general appearance within all LSW premises. Carry out all cleaning duties as directed by Facilities Management Team within all LSW premises. This post operates 7 days per week including bank holidays between 6am and 10pm on a rotational shift pattern. Must be able to work alone and on own initiative as well as part of a team.

Main duties of the job

This role provides a portering service to Cumberland Centre. Duties will include moving and handling of heavy equipment, waste disposable, floor maintenance, internal postal delivery service and a cleaning service. You may be required to work in other locations to meet service needs. You may be required to change your shift pattern to meet service needs.

Job responsibilities

1. To deliver catering supplies to all departments.

2. Remove all waste and safely dispose in allocated bin areas ensuring bin area is clean and tidy. Bins must be locked at all time. To safely move full bins to storage area when required and replace with empty bins. To empty and dispose of contents of external bin receptacles and replace with new bin bag daily.

3. To collect and deliver clean and soiled laundry bags and linen and store in correct facilities.

4. To store C.S.S.D. bags and laboratory specimens in appropriate area to await collection.

5. Report faults in equipment and the fabric of the building, record and log fault and monitor to ensure work is completed.

6. Assist in the moving of equipment.

7. Assist with moving patients to X-ray, Minor Injuries Unit, Physio Department and other services as and when required.

8. Deliver and connect medical gases to departments when required (as per policy).

9. Deliver, collect and sort all mail / parcels from departments / units and frank external post.

10. Collect and deliver patient medical notes directly to individual departments.

11. Responsible for receiving all stores / goods including stationery and distributing to all departments / units on a weekly basis or as and when delivered.

12. Ensure the safe delivery from Pharmacy of all medication to a person in charge in the correct department / unit.

13. Ensure the safe collection of all specimens by Pharmacy.

14. To maintain cleanliness and carry out routine checks on site assistant vehicles as per instructions from Transport Department.

15. Replenish all domestic store cupboards with stock for cleaning. Replenish all dispensers with paper products, soap and cleaning solutions.

16. To work flexibly to meet service needs.

17. To provide annual leave / sickness absence cover to the Site Assistant / Courier Driver at Cumberland Centre, Glenbourne, Mount Gould Hospital and Postal Worker at Mount Gould Hospital.

5.2 All Site Assistant Duties:

The cleaning of:-

1. Corridors, stairs, floors and lift.

2. Clinical areas.

3. X-Ray Department.

4. Minor Injuries Unit.

5. Minor Operations Theatre.

6. Toilets.

7. Waiting Rooms.

8. Reception Areas.

9. Empty and clean refuse bins and cigarette stub holders.

10. Clean spillages etc. following Infection Control guidelines.

11. Changing curtains as and when requested.

12. Deep cleaning of floors using floor cleaning equipment as requested, ie buffing machine.

13. Deep cleaning of ceilings, light diffusers, extractor fans, ventilation grills, cooker hoods and walls.

14. Removal of radiator covers, cleaning of radiators and refitting radiator covers.

5.3 Grounds and Gardens:

Responsible for the maintenance of the grounds to include:-

1. Ensure all entrances are clear of leaves and litter at all times.

2. Grit / salt paths and steps during cold weather.

3. Empty outside waste receptacles.

4. Cleaning of all signs internal and external.

5. Cleaning of porches and canopies. Cleaning of PVC window frames, external window sills, main entrances and external covered ways.

5.4 Health & Safety

1. Responsible for locking and alarming buildings, ensuring all units are properly secured at nights and weekends. Responsible for unlocking and deactivating alarms in buildings.

2. Respond to emergency alarms including fire / ambulance.

3. To escort Funeral Directors to ward areas.

4. Reporting of untoward incidents.

5. Testing fire alarms on weekly basis at Cumberland Centre or as directed by Hotel Services Management Team.

6. Testing panic alarms on weekly basis.

7. Aid visitors to the site and adhere to Health & Safety.

8. Responsible for the safe keeping of all keys to units / departments. Out of hours to collect keys or codes from Mount Gould Switchboard Room.

9. To respond to all requests made by Night Co-ordinator on the Mount Gould site.

General

1. Assist any contractors who attend site.

2. Responsible for giving access to restricted areas / departments to all authorised personnel.

3. Any other duties requested by the Hotel Services Management Team.

Other Responsibilities

1. To attend all training sessions including mandatory training and role specific

training as necessary in line with organisation policy.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Vocational qualification Level II or able to demonstrate the skills; knowledge and ability to work to this level.
  • Maths & English GCSE Grades 4 and above or equivalent.
  • Ability to frequently travel independently and in a timely manner between Livewell Southwest sites and community locations including areas not served by public transport.

Additional Requirements

Essential

  • Able to alight to and from a vehicle many times a day loading and unloading a vehicle with mail and parcels.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of the Highway Code and Road Traffic Law.
  • Awareness of Health & Safety & COSHH Regulations.
  • Able to use floor cleaning equipment.

Desirable

  • Working with electrical equipment i.e. light diffusers; safe removal and cleaning of diffusers, training will be provided.
