Are you a passionate nurse with an interest in dermatology looking to develop your specialist skills in a supportive and forward-thinking service?

Yorkshire Health Partners (YHP) is expanding its Dermatology Service and we are looking for an experienced and motivated Specialist Dermatology Nurse to take on a key clinical leadership role within our multidisciplinary team. This is an exciting opportunity to combine advanced clinical practice, including prescribing and minor procedures, with team leadership and service development, helping to deliver high-quality, accessible dermatology care across the region.

In this role, you will act as a clinical leader and specialist practitioner, delivering and shaping dermatology services.

18.75 hours per week (will include weekend working). If able to fulfill requirements of full job description salary will be £28,684.50 per annum. Locations potentially across whole of East Riding of Yorkshire

Main duties of the job

In this role, you will act as a clinical leader and specialist practitioner, delivering and shaping dermatology services. You will:

  • Deliver autonomous nurse-led dermatology clinics including assessment diagnosis and management
  • Independently prescribe (where qualified) and manage topical systemic and selected advanced therapies
  • Perform minor dermatological procedures
  • Manage patients with complex and chronic skin conditions, ensuring safe and effective care
  • Provide expert clinical advice to stakeholders
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and line management to the dermatology nursing team
  • Support staff development through supervision, mentorship, and appraisal
  • Promote a culture of clinical excellence, safety, and continuous improvement
  • Lead and contribute to audit, quality improvement, and service evaluation
  • Monitor and support delivery against key performance measures
  • Support the design and delivery of innovative, community-based pathways
  • Work across organisational boundaries to improve patient access and experience

We are looking for a committed and forward-thinking nurse who:

  • Is a Registered Nurse with significant dermatology experience
  • Demonstrates advanced clinical assessment and decision-making skills
  • Has experience delivering nurse-led clinics and managing complex patients
  • Shows evidence of leadership or team management experience
  • Is confident working autonomously while contributing to a wider MDT
  • Is passionate about improving patient outcomes

Job Purpose

To provide advanced specialist dermatology nursing care within the Yorkshire Health Partners Dermatology Service. The post holder will act as a clinical leader, delivering expert patient care, leading a team of dermatology nurses, and ensuring service delivery meets YHP Dermatology Service specifications, quality standards, and performance outcomes

Job Summary

The Specialist Dermatology Nurse will:

  • Lead and manage a dermatology nursing team to deliver high-quality patient care
  • Undertake autonomous clinical assessment, diagnosis - within scope - and management of dermatology patients
  • Deliver and oversee nurse-led clinics for a range of skin conditions
  • Monitor, manage, and improve service performance, patient outcomes, and experience
  • Contribute to service development, innovation, and quality improvement

Key Areas of Responsibility

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Undertake advanced dermatology assessment, clinical examination, and decision-making
  • Diagnose and manage a wide range of dermatological conditions within scope of practice
  • Run autonomous nurse-led clinics, including triage, follow-up, and treatment services
  • Initiate and monitor treatments, including systemic therapies, within competence and prescribing qualification
  • Provide advanced clinical care including independent prescribing - where qualified - and delivery of minor surgical procedures, contributing to a comprehensive community dermatology service
  • Manage complex patients and escalate appropriately
  • Provide expert advice, education, and support to patients and carers
  • Act as a specialist resource for dermatology within the wider MDT

Leadership and Team Management

  • Provide leadership and line management to the dermatology nursing team
  • Undertake appraisals, performance management, and workforce development
  • Support recruitment, retention, and workforce planning
  • Promote a culture of high performance, continuous learning, and patient-centred care

Operational Management

  • Lead the day-to-day operational delivery of dermatology services
  • Ensure clinics and services meet agreed activity levels, waiting time targets, and service specifications
  • Develop, implement, and review clinical pathways in line with YHP Dermatology Service requirements
  • Contribute to service planning and transformation initiatives

Performance and Outcomes Monitoring

  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators, including clinical outcomes, access, and quality metrics
  • Lead and participate in audits, service evaluation, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Use data and feedback to drive improvements in service delivery
  • Ensure compliance with governance frameworks and contractual standards

Financial Management and Planning

  • Support effective use of resources within the service
  • Contribute to budget management and cost-effective care delivery
  • Ensure appropriate utilisation of treatments and clinical resources

Building Capacity through Effective Leadership

  • Develop team capability through education, mentorship, and training
  • Support skill development and extended roles within the nursing team
  • Encourage multidisciplinary collaboration across primary and secondary care

Communication

  • Maintain effective communication with patients, carers, and the MDT
  • Liaise with GPs, consultants, and external providers to ensure continuity of care
  • Ensure clear and accurate documentation and reporting

Risk Management and Quality Assurance

  • Lead on identification and management of clinical and organisational risks
  • Ensure adherence to clinical governance and quality standards
  • Participate in incident investigation and implementation of learning
  • Maintain high standards of infection prevention and patient safety

Management of Workload and Personal Development

  • Act autonomously in prioritising and managing workload
  • Maintain continuing professional development and clinical competence
  • Participate in leadership development and organisational initiatives
