Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and compassionate TNBI Health Check Assistant (TNBI HCA)to join our innovative and multidisciplinary clinical team. Working as a part on TNBI team and alongside GPs, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Pharmacists, Practice Nurses, Associate Practitioners, and fellow HCAs, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred primary care services across our three practice sites.

We are a busy and forward thinking practice serving a patient population of approximately 24,500 patients. Main duties of the job

As a TNBI Health Check Assistant, you will undertake a range of clinical duties including:

  • Conducting TNBI (Transgender, Non-Binary and Intersex) Health Reviews, Annual Health Checks and Initial Health Check appointments.
  • Assisting the TNBI service team with associated administration, including but not limited to patient recalls, triaging of tasks and emails, producing GP letters and filling out referrals.
  • Ensuring patient care within WellBN and NHS guidelines and protocol
  • Support the clinical team with the management of long term conditionsAct as a chaperone if and when required
  • Taking samples within your skillset
  • Administering vaccines and injections within your skill set
  • Ensuring that clinical rooms are well stocked and clinical team have the equipment they need
  • Maintain a level of infection control in line with WellBN policy
  • Keep own training and development up to date
  • Ensure clinical waste management is undertaken within WellBN and NHS policies
  • Carry out regular fridge checks
  • Deliver opportunistic health promotion when appropriate
  • Continually assess and evaluate systems, recommending changes and improvements to the management team as appropriate.

Job responsibilities

The TNBI Health Check Assistant will support the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care to Transgender, Non-Binary and Intersex (TNBI) patients, as well as contribute to the provision of annual and initial health checks within the practice.

The post holder will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to provide clinical and administrative support, ensuring patients receive safe, effective and compassionate care in line with WellBN and NHS policies, procedures and standards.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

  • Conduct TNBI Health Reviews, Annual Health Checks and Initial Health Check appointments.
  • Undertake venepuncture and other clinical procedures within own scope of practice and competency.
  • Administer vaccinations and injections within training and competency levels.
  • Take clinical observations including height, weight, blood pressure and pulse.
  • Assist with the monitoring and management of patients with long-term conditions.
  • Collect clinical samples within own skill set.
  • Act as a chaperone when required.
  • Deliver opportunistic health promotion and preventative healthcare advice to patients.

Administrative Duties

  • Support the TNBI team with patient recalls, appointment preparation and follow-up activities.
  • Triage incoming tasks and emails as appropriate.
  • Produce GP correspondence and referral documentation.
  • Maintain accurate and contemporaneous clinical records using practice systems.
  • Support effective communication between patients and the wider clinical team.

Practice Support Duties

  • Ensure clinical rooms are appropriately stocked and prepared.
  • Maintain infection prevention and control standards in accordance with practice and NHS policies.
  • Manage clinical waste in line with organisational procedures.
  • Carry out routine vaccine and medication fridge temperature checks.
  • Contribute to service development by identifying and recommending improvements to systems and processes.
  • Participate in mandatory training, supervision and continuing professional development activities.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • 6 months relevant experience working in a primary care environment in the last 2 years
  • Experience of working with the general public
  • Experience working with Transgender, Non-Binary and Intersex patients or comparable lived experience
  • Experience of working in a healthcare setting

Qualifications

Essential

  • Health care qualification or equivalent level
  • Phlebotomy certification

Desirable

  • Ear syringing certification.

General skills

Essential

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
  • Strong IT skills
  • Clear, polite telephone manner
  • Competent in the use of patient record management systems: EMIS / SystmOne
  • Effective time management (Planning & Organising)
