Job summary
Alliance Psychological Services is an independent provider of counselling and psychological therapy services in the Tees Valley and working across the Northeast. We work in partnership with Teesside Mind to deliver the Impact on Teesside service.
We are recruiting several Trainee Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners (PWP) to start the course at Newcastle University in October 2026, to work within our Impact on Teesside NHS Talking Therapies service. Successful candidates will need to start in role prior to the course starting to allow time to learn about Impact and have an induction. They will complete the Low Intensity Psychological therapies PGCert course during their first year within the post. Salaries for the PWP training posts will be £26,000 per annum increasing to £27,000 per annum once qualified.
All candidates must have a permanent right to work in the UK we do not provide sponsorship for these roles.
Whilst this role will offer some opportunity to work remotely up to one day a week there will be a requirement to work face-to-face in an office across Teesside, as well as attending the course on campus at Newcastle University.
Trainees will be employed by either Alliance Psychological Services or Teesside Mind - this will be confirmed at appointment. Although both organisations work under the Impact on Teesside service, they have differing terms & conditions. Please see below for more information.

Main duties of the job
The postholder will provide a range of evidence based low intensity psychological interventions within the framework of the national NHS England Talking Therapies programme as part of the Impact on Teesside NHS Talking Therapies service.
They will also work within Impact's duty team where they will offer assessment and support to patients referred into the service.
The postholder will work as part of the Impact team in clinical practice for a min. of 3 days across the week whilst attending the PWP training programme.
This position requires flexible working hours between 8am-8pm Monday to Thursday and 8am-5pm Fridays with the postholder required to work one evening shift per week up to 8pm.

Job responsibilities

Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesTo work as a member of the Impact on Teesside Talking Therapies team
- Create and maintain effective working relationships within the wider Impact team and elsewhere.
- Offer advice and support to other members of the wider Primary Care Team, including GPs and other Health Professionals, on mental health issues, and in relation to appropriate referral pathways for patients with mental health needs.
- Liaise effectively with Secondary Care and voluntary sector organisations and services.
- Attend meetings and provide reports as required.
- Assist in the development and promotion of the service.
To provide a range of low intensity CBT interventions
- Provide assessment, including safety assessment, of clients referred to Impact on Teesside, involving making decisions around treatment/support pathways, as well as supporting with any signposting and onward referrals where clients may require other services, including statutory and voluntary agencies.
- Select and deliver a range of low intensity CBT interventions in collaboration with the client via a range of modalities, including telephone, face to face and group work.
- Work within an appropriate time framework.
- Maintain clients confidentiality within agreed guidelines.
To undertake the required training programme
- Attend and fulfil all the requirements of the training element of the post. NB: Satisfactory completion of the training programme is a condition of continued employment.
- Apply learning from the training programme in practice.
- Attend university-based supervision in relation to course work to meet the required standards.
- Work with an appropriate range and number of cases selected with the support of their Clinical Supervisor as suitable for the current stage of clinical skills development.
Safeguarding
- Responsible for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults by always promoting the welfare of service users and operating within local policies and procedures.
- Taking appropriate safeguarding action to protect children and vulnerable adults at risk of significant harm, whilst receiving support and guidance from supervisors/senior members of staff and specialist teams.
- Signposting and/or referring families to Early Help services when required.
- Share appropriate information with other agencies regarding the service users wellbeing and progress, keeping within the boundaries of Confidentiality and Information sharing protocols.
To provide a professional and ethical service
- Maintain appropriate records including all required assessment and evaluation tools.
- Commit to applying for PWP registration with BABCP/BPS upon completion of the PWP training course in line with NHS England guidance.
- Undertake relevant Continuing Professional Development activities both as required for the purposes of PWP registration as per professional body guidance and as identified through Impacts Professional Development and Appraisal System.
- Engage with the required amount of clinical and caseload management supervision from a qualified PWP supervisor within Impacts Supervision Programme and in line with PWP registration requirements.
- Operate within agreed NHS, Impact and professional guidelines and Codes of Practice.
- Ensure a safe and secure working environment for self and others and to act as necessary within Health and Safety and other guidelines.
- Adhere to all Impact Policies, Procedures and Guidelines.
- Promote and value the rights, responsibilities and diversity of people using the Service.
