Job summary

Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is pleased to announce the development andintroduction of these new, innovative, and exciting posts, which have been designed primarily for trainees who have successfully completed a Foundation Training Program and wish toundertake a 2-year ST1/2 equivalent training programme. Upon completion a 3rd year will beoffered at IMT3 level should all competencies be met. Successful applicants will be supportedto progress through the entire IMT curriculum whilst remaining within the trust for the entireduration of the programme.

Main duties of the job

Duties will be based at Gloucester & Cheltenham sites and include full medical on callsincluding weekends, twilight and night shifts.These roles will enable the post holder to take supervised responsibility for patient care acrossa number of medical specialties and build upon the competencies gained during foundationtraining. As the post holder gains experience, they will remain under clinical supervision but takeon increasing responsibility for patient care. In particular they will begin to make managementdecisions as part of their progress to independent practice and succeeding as a specialistregistrar.During their tenure the post holder will further develop their core generic skills and contributemore to the education and training of the wider healthcare workforce. At the end of their tenurethe post holder will have begun to demonstrate clinical effectiveness, leadership and thedecision-making responsibilities that are essential for the next stage of their careers.

Job responsibilities

Professional Development, Education and Training

We recognise the importance of continuing medical education and actively encourage professional development. There is an active Post Graduate Medical Centre at both Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and Cheltenham General Hospital with excellent library and skills facilities on both sites.

Most specialty departments run their own dedicated teaching programmes and the Medical Directorate holds a weekly Grand Round.

In order to support ongoing career development, a half day a fortnight of Self Development Time will be offered, subject to overall staffing across your department and the Medical division.

This time should be used for activities such as QIP, research, teaching experience in other specialities and exam preparation.

Research and Development

The Trust has been widely praised for its approach to Quality Improvement. You will be encouraged to contribute to both audit and QI projects within all departments.

There are opportunities to join Quality Improvement training courses tun by the Trust.

Communications and Working Relationships

Multidisciplinary collaboration: You will work closely with nurses, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care delivery and optimal patient outcomes.

Clinical Governance

All departments will hold directorate, audit and Morbidity & Mortality meetings. Our Trust has a well-established framework for clinical governance that incorporates our clinical audit program.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • -Have full registration with and hold a current license to practice from the GMC at intended start date
  • Have evidence of achievement of foundation competencies in years preceding
  • A minimum on 12 months experience working within the NHS at the point of starting the post

Desirable

  • Understands, respects and demonstrates the values of the NHS Constitution
