Band 4 Wellbeing and Fitness Instructor

Two positions available:

  • Full-time: 37.5 hours per week
  • Part-time: 18.75 hours per week

We are seeking motivated and compassionate Wellbeing and Fitness Instructors to join our fully integrated Therapies Service at Silverwood in Chertsey.

Working under the supervision of a Physiotherapist and alongside the wider multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in supporting the physical health, wellbeing, and recovery of people admitted to our working-age adult acute inpatient mental health service.

You will deliver both individual and group-based exercise and wellbeing interventions, tailored to the needs of service users, and focus on helping them achieve their personal goals.

We offer active clinical supervision from a Physiotherapist, an individually tailored professional development plan, and opportunities to gain a broad range of experience across different mental health areas. Main duties of the job

  • Assess, instruct, and supervise individual and group exercise programmes. These will be gym based, wards-based sessions and community settings
  • Assist in the development of gym/exercise session plans and health screening forms
  • To co-ordinate and develop a range of health promotion activities and programmes to provide a stimulating range of opportunities for people of all abilities to actively participate in
  • To independently plan, modify and adapt appropriate exercises and well-being programmes in accordance with people that use our services' individual needs
  • Assist with mobility, strength, balance, and functional exercises as instructed and designed by a Physiotherapist
  • Support long-term condition management (e.g. MSK, Cardiac rehab, respiratory) as directed by a Physiotherapist
  • Provide education and coaching to individuals on maintaining health and health promotion to enable them to make informed decisions regarding self-care and maintain wellness

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience of delivering exercise programmes (gym, rehab or community setting)
  • Significant experience of working with people with health conditions
  • A good understanding of the positive impact of exercise on health and wellbeing and an ability to motivate others to make healthier choices, with experience of providing exercise instruction to specialist groups
  • Knowledge of leisure services
  • Understanding of contemporary health promotion, particularly relating to the fields of obesity, healthy eating and physical activity

Desirable

  • Experience in NHS or healthcare setting

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ Level 3 and experience or qualification in health and/or fitness

Desirable

  • Exercise referral or clinical Exercise qualification
