As a member of the Enable Supported Employment Team within Adult Social Care you will support the achievement of these key priorities, making a real difference to the lives of people in Shropshire. Enable is Shropshire Council's employment service for people with health conditions or disabilities and has teams specialising in mental health employment, learning disability and autism employment and employment of young people with SEND. Overview of your role The post will work flexibly to support clients with job coaching and travel training, and the availability of work will change according to the demand at the time. Evening and Weekend work may be required at times. Who will your manager be and what will you be responsible for? You will be reporting to the Senior Employment Support Co-ordinator who is in turn responsible for your health and safety, training and development. What will you be doing? 1. Provide support in community leisure or employment activities for people with disabilities or health difficulties within the community. 2. Provide support with travel training for individuals who would like to be able to travel 3. independently Liaise with employers, parents and carers to develop effective working relationships and ensure community engagement. 4. Work intensively with service users on employer's premises using a variety of techniques to teach the skills necessary to carry out a particular job or task. 5. Promote an understanding of disability amongst community-based services, employers and other employees to ensure the positive integration of service users into the workforce. 6. Undertake job searching on behalf of service users through using Jobcentre Plus resources, internet sites, volunteer agencies and other media. 7. Work on a one to one basis with service users in a variety of leisure, community and vocational settings without direct supervision. 8. Develop service users' personal and social interactions and networks within the workplace or community. 9. Use initiative to develop individualised and appropriate work based development and training methods. 10. Support service users in a way which encourages independence and the development of new skills. 11. Ensure health and safety in the work place is maintained for all service users on voluntary work experience placements and paid employment. 12. Provide a high degree of support before and during community activities, work experience and paid employment to service users. 13. Assist the Employment Officers and Employment Support Coordinator in the carrying out of their duties, and work under their day to day guidance. 14. The post holder will, on an ad-hoc basis, provide assistance to other parts of Enable services on a level appropriate to the post. 15. Ensure that service user needs are communicated to the appropriate people, and in particular, to the Employment Support Coordinator, the Employment Officers and the Manager, Enable. 16. Maintain files and records in accordance with Departmental and Enable policies and procedures. 17. Ensure that confidentiality of service users is maintained. 18. Develop an awareness and understanding of issues related to equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice and demonstrate this in the carrying out of your duties. 19. To take an active part in identified training, development and continuing personal and vocational development. 20. Comply with safe systems of work in accordance with the Directorate's Health, safety and Welfare policies and procedures. 21. You may be required to carry out manual handling duties involving the handling and moving of clients in accordance with the Manual Handling Operations Regulations. What are your conditions of Service The conditions of service are those laid down by Shropshire Council, which have been adopted and amended as necessary from those laid down by the National Joint Council for Local Government Services. You will be based at Hereford College Campus (Head Office for Enable is New Zealand House, Shrewsbury. However, there are offices in Ludlow, Shropshire). Your post is subject to the following: • The post is contracted from commencement of employment to 09.07.2027 for 20 hours per week which will exclude working in non-college term weeks (Christmas, Easter and Half Term Holidays totalling 7 weeks over the period of the contract) • Working hours will normally be flexible to meet the needs of the service • The Council's annualised hours scheme as implemented within the specific work area. This post carries eligibility to join the Local Government Pension Scheme. Information about this will be sent with any formal offer of appointment. Annual leave entitlement is as follows: In accordance with the working time directive, you will accrue an entitlement to annual leave in direct proportion to the hours you work, with effect from appointment. The appointment is subject to one month's notice in writing on either side. The appointment is subject to six months' satisfactory probationary service during which time the notice period will be one week on either side. Smoking is not allowed in Council buildings, in Council vehicles or in any Council place of work. You are entitled to claim for reimbursement of the costs of travel on council business at the rate of 55 pence per mile if any mileage is undertaken as part of the role. What pre-employment checks will we undertake? The appointment is subject to receipt of the following pre-employment checks; 1. Satisfactory employment references, 2. Medical report, 3. Evidence of the qualifications required for the post/listed on your application form, This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such all applicants who are appointed to this post will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed. This check will include details of cautions, reprimands or warnings as well as convictions and non-conviction information. Once appointed, the successful applicant(s) will also be required to apply for an Enhanced Disclosure at pre-determined intervals during the course of their employment whilst in this post.
