- 10 fashion trends for 2025
Out with the old and in with the new…not just the year, but also some of 2024’s looks and trends.
That’s not to say a whole new wardrobe is in order, but if you’re looking to update your look with some key 2025 trends, look no further for ideas on what items to look out for and how to style them.
Ideas for the mature woman

Denim
“What on earth is new or fresh about denim?” we hear you say. “It’s been a fashion staple for years!”
True – but 2025’s denim has reinvented itself and is moving even further away from the skinny jeans of the noughties and more towards relaxed fits that look to details for their glamorous touches. Think embroidered embellishments or diamanté edged pockets…
We’re also likely to see more cropped jeans, as well as jeans cut a little wider. You can choose a high-waisted cut to elongate your legs and keep the silhouette elegant: this look pairs well with a simple t-shirt, shirt, or sweater. And to add even more length to your form, you can don heels for more formal occasions, or a stack-soled trainer by day.
Marks & Spencer High Waisted Front Seam Wide Leg Jeans

Marks & Spencer, £45
With a loose, yet elegant fit in a range of sizes and lengths, these jeans can be styled up or down, as well as being made in an easy-care, cotton-rich denim that’s easily machine washable.
Trench coats
A staple from season to season, yes – but 2025 sees a shift from the neat, streamlined style that we might associate with Burberry (although this version of the trenchcoat will never look outdated!), towards a less structured fit.
Additionally, this year’s version moves away from conventional camel and into colour, making it an ideal layering piece, combining classic details with modern flair.
Isabel Marant Double-Breasted Trench Coat

Cettire, £581.00
A fresh and unashamedly feminine take on the beloved trench, this fashion-forward take on a classic will breathe colour into cooler days and raise spirits when everything else looks gloomy.
Statement collars
The basic ‘top’ gets an upgrade in 2025, with overstated collars adding a wow factor that makes necklaces more or less redundant.
Princess Diana was the poster girl for this look but you can expect a more modern take on it, with ruffles and oversized collars, often in contrast fabrics. It’s demure without being in the slightest bit frumpy or fussy and will dress up a simple pair of jeans by day, or a smart pair of trousers for work or evening.
Cord Emmie Blouse

Nobody’s Child, £55
Choose from bold red or colourful florals – this piece has puffed sleeves and a dropped collar, so you don’t even need to forsake your favourite jewellery. The oversized collar has a delicate ruffle edge, while the boxy fit means you can wear it loose or tucked in.
Gothic glamour
Just about anyone who lived through the 1970s and 80s would most likely have had a brush with Gothic fashion, and this year it’s back – more decadent and darkly glamorous than ever.
Think rich velvets in the colder months, and dark florals at any time of year. If you’re a fan of the boho look – especially in deeper colours – this is an easy look to adopt from your existing wardrobe.
If you already own pieces like these, you may wish to upgrade with some new additions, such as flowing scarfs, or more dramatic makeup (time to rock a red lip). Either way, think in terms of the influences of recent film releases such as Wednesday and Beetlejuice, mix it up with some of those pre-noughties influences and you’ll have all the theatricality nailed.
Black Cinched Waist Midi Dress with Pockets

Simply Be, £44
Long sleeves, a flatteringly longer length, a V-neckline and free-flowing pleats: this dress is Gothic 101 at a brilliantly affordable price, as well as being made from recycled polyester and a free-flowing pleated skirt.
It’s machine-washable, too, which means you can wear it over and over again – and its simplicity means that it can be styled in various ways. Available in sizes 10 to 32, this is an investment piece that won’t cost the earth.
Athluxury
It’s essentially gym wear but not as you know it. First, we had athleisure – yoga/ sportswear that doubled as casual daywear. But in 2025, we’re seeing this elevated with increasingly luxe fabrics and details.
Forget about the shiny Lycra of aerobics classes in the 1980s (sorry, Jamie Lee Curtis and Olivia Newton-John!) and think more in terms of eco-friendly bamboo and cosy cashmere.
Style and luxury combined with a workout…we can’t think of a better way to entice us into the studio (and then straight out to brunch, naturally).
Cashmere Chica Ballet Wrap

House of Bruar, £275
When you’re cooling down after a session, you need something cosy and beautiful to throw on – and, often, an old hoodie just won’t cut it. Enter this gorgeous cashmere wrap, which channels ballet core and comes in green, bright pink, and blue.
The deep-V neckline and tie feature are unmistakably feminine, pairing perfectly with your workout gear – and best of all, it can be washed in the machine at 30℃. Check out the joggers from the range, too.
Ideas for the mature man

Luxe knitwear
Think ‘knitwear’ for males and you might think of schoolboy jumpers or grandad cardigans – but think again because, in 2025, knitwear is getting an upgrade that ticks all of the sartorial boxes for the mature man.
Look to jumpers – whether V-neck or crewneck, depending on your preference – in a range of upmarket textures and materials. Cashmere, merino wool…picture luxury, as well as warmth.
The idea of knitwear also doesn’t need to conjure up the shapeless garments of former decades. Look for well-fitted pieces that work well over shirts and t-shirts, as well as those with arms that comfortably cover your wrists, and lengths that sit well over jeans or trousers.
Uniqlo Cashmere Crew Neck Jumper

Uniqlo, £89.90
Warm yet lightweight, Uniqlo’s cashmere range has been engineered for everyday wear, allowing each piece to be washed at home, rather than dry cleaned.
Sizes range from XXS to 3XL, and there are more than 10 colours to be chosen from, too.
Woodsman shirts
Otherwise known as a simple flannel shirt, these wardrobe staples combine practicality with style – as well as somehow creating a look that says ‘capable and efficient.’
Another benefit of these shirts is that they can be worn buttoned up, or loose, over a plain t-shirt, almost like a lightweight jacket. Usually in plaid (check), you can also find block colour styles, if you want to tone down the outdoorsy look in favour of one more urban.
Hoggs of Fife Countrysport Luxury Hunting Shirt

New Forest Clothing, £44.95
Made from brushed flannel cotton, this shirt is made to be slightly oversized, which allows for layering – perfect for the cooler months or the sometimes-unreliable summers.
Available in sizes ranging from small to 3XL, it features two zippered breast pockets and stylish horn-effect buttons, as well as buttoned cuffs.
Relaxed blazers
As a mature man, you probably don’t feel inclined to be stitched into a suit anymore. However, as that need fades, it’s replaced by one for something that’s still smart but also more relaxed and comfortable.
Banish thoughts of school uniforms: today’s blazer is simply a way of elevating a simple jeans and t-shirt combination or creating that elusive ‘smart casual’ look when worn with a pair of chinos. Blazers are also incredibly versatile when it comes to footwear, as their dressed-down elegance makes them just as suitable for wear with loafers as trainers.
Whether you prefer a countryside-inspired herringbone style or a dapper ‘man about town’ look, there are endless options in a range of prices available to try.
Linen Cotton Jacket

Charles Tyrwhitt, £249
You truly have your pick of colours when it comes to this blazer, which is a beautifully breathable blend of linen and cotton, with not a synthetic fibre to be found. Choose from natural hues like camel, mocha and taupe, or make more of a colour statement with blue or green.
Available in both a slim and classic fit, this stylish piece has a double back vent for a comfortable fit, as well as minimal shoulder pads for a more natural and relaxed silhouette.
Polo shirts
As sporty as they are stylish, the simple polo shirt worn by the modern, mature man builds a look that’s both smart and casual. Fit is everything: wear one that’s too baggy or misshapen, and you risk undermining your style stakes. Instead, choose a slim fit that hugs your shape without clinging too ferociously, no matter what shape you’re in.
One of the greatest appeals of a polo is that it creates a look that’s less formal (and more comfortable) than a shirt. But it’s smarter, thanks to the presence of a collar, than a T-shirt. Whether long or short-sleeved, pair with jeans or chinos and you’ll look ready for wherever the day takes you.
Cotton Rich Knitted Polo Shirt

Marks & Spencer, £28
Available in khaki and dark grey, this long-sleeved polo shirt comes at a surprisingly affordable price point, making it perfectly acceptable to buy in both colours!
Made from a cotton-rich material, it’s easy-care, as well – you can just bung it in the washing machine, leave it to dry, and it will be ready to wear again in no time.
Corduroy trousers
This timeless look gets a smart makeover this year – think less in terms of gardening and geography teachers, and more in terms of country walks ending in cosy pubs, or weekends spent relaxing with friends.
The secret? Go for a chunky cord but with a slim fit, so that you get the full impact of the texture, without losing shape and style. Paired with anything from t-shirts to turtlenecks, or dressed up with a blazer, cords offer a classic and versatile look. For even more of a contemporary twist, steer away from classic brown and choose a colour, such as sage green or burgundy.
Regular Fit Ellroy Corduroy Trouser

Brook Taverner, £39.95
With a range of colours and leg lengths to choose from, these beautifully constructed trousers are guaranteed to be a year-round wardrobe staple. They’re soft yet hard-wearing, and their beautiful cut means they’re as stylish as they are practical.
Final thoughts …
Fashion for mature men and women in 2025 isn’t about going over the top with anything groundbreakingly new or ‘out there’. Instead, it’s about reinventing classics to give them a contemporary, wearable edge, combining comfort, style, and practicality – with, of course, a touch of sartorial glamour.
Because of this, you’re likely to find that many of these pieces can be worn with items you already have in your wardrobe, giving them a new lease of life.
