This role combines strategic leadership and strong governance to help shape the future of Citizens Advice Shropshire. As Chair, you will ensure the organisation remains trusted, effective, and welcoming to those who use its services.

What will you be doing?

As Chair of Citizens Advice Shropshire, you will provide inspiring leadership to the Trustee Board, helping to set strategic direction, monitor performance, and ensure strong governance in line with national standards. Working closely with the Treasurer, you will oversee financial stewardship and accountability, ensuring the organisation remains financially sound and well-managed.

You will also play a key role in supporting and developing the CEO and Senior Management Team, fostering strong relationships that enable effective day-to-day delivery of services. In addition, you will help build a diverse and skilled Board, ensuring Trustees are well supported, engaged, and representative of the local community, while leading well-run, inclusive meetings that enable clear decision-making and effective collaboration.

What are we looking for?

The ideal Chair will bring strong senior leadership and strategic decision-making experience, with the ability to lead discussions, build consensus, and provide effective support and challenge to the Chief Executive. They should be an excellent communicator with sound judgement, financial awareness, emotional resilience, and a collaborative, inclusive leadership style. A genuine commitment to improving the lives of people across Shropshire and confidence in working within a governance framework are essential.

You'll either have current/previous experience as a Trustee OR experience in running a company or other organisation. It would also be desirable that applicants have a solid understanding of the issues that the Charity seeks to address/represent. Our new Chair will act as an ambassador for Citizens Advice Shropshire, foster positive relationships across the organisation, champion equality and community wellbeing, and uphold the Nolan Principles of Public Life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty, and leadership.

What difference will you make?

As Chair of Citizens Advice Shropshire, you will play a key role in shaping the future of the organisation, ensuring it remains sustainable, effective, and responsive to the needs of local communities. Your leadership will help drive strategic priorities, strengthen governance, and support the delivery of high-quality services that make a tangible difference to people's lives.

You will help build strong relationships across the organisation and wider community, championing the charity's mission and increasing support for its work. By providing guidance, oversight, and encouragement, you will enable Citizens Advice Shropshire to continue as a trusted and welcoming organisation, improving outcomes for beneficiaries, staff, volunteers, and the communities it serves.
