Communications & Content Officer

Reach Volunteering

Job Description

Want to use your content skills for good? Help a new Scottish social enterprise grow through social media, blogs and digital storytelling. Gain hands-on experience, build your portfolio and help tackle financial stress and inequality.

What will you be doing?

What do you need the volunteer to do?

Your Financial Wellbeing (YFW) is a new Scottish social enterprise focused on improving access to financial wellbeing support, reducing the impact of financial stress and helping people better understand their options around money and debt. We are looking for a creative and motivated volunteer to help us grow our digital presence and tell our story in an engaging and meaningful way.

The volunteer will support YFW with a range of communications and content activities, helping us build awareness of our work and connect with communities, partners and supporters.

Key responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting the creation and scheduling of social media content across platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram
  • Helping write engaging website blogs and articles on topics linked to financial wellbeing, money worries, debt, social inequality and community support
  • Creating digital content such as graphics, short-form posts, awareness campaigns and storytelling content that reflects YFW's values and tone
  • Assisting with website updates and helping improve online engagement and visibility
  • Helping communicate the impact of YFW's work through stories, insights and accessible content
  • Supporting occasional newsletters, campaigns or promotional materials as YFW develops

We are not expecting someone to do everything or already be an expert. This role can be shaped around the volunteer's skills, interests and availability. We are looking for someone who is creative, reliable and interested in using communications and digital content to make a positive social impact.

This is an exciting opportunity to get involved at an early stage of a growing organisation and help shape how we communicate our mission and reach the people who may benefit from our work. Volunteers will gain practical experience, flexibility, portfolio-building opportunities and a reference to support future study or employment.

The volunteer will work closely with the founder of YFW and have the opportunity to contribute ideas, test creative approaches and help build something with real purpose from the ground up.

What are we looking for?

What qualities and experience should your volunteer have?

We are looking for a creative, reliable and values-driven volunteer who is passionate about using communication and digital content to make a positive social impact.

Our ideal volunteer will have an interest in areas such as communications, marketing, digital media, content creation, journalism, social enterprise or community impact.

Helpful skills or experience include:

  • Experience in social media, digital marketing or content creation
  • Good written communication skills and confidence writing clear, engaging content
  • Experience or interest in writing blogs, articles, captions or digital storytelling
  • Basic knowledge of platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram or website content management systems, although training and support can be provided
  • Creativity and the ability to communicate ideas in an accessible and engaging way
  • Design skills using tools such as Canva would be helpful but are not essential
  • An interest in social justice, financial wellbeing, inequality or supporting communities facing financial stress would be beneficial

The most important qualities for us are:

  • A genuine interest in making a difference and supporting a mission-driven organisation
  • Creativity and enthusiasm for helping grow our online presence
  • Reliability and good communication
  • A willingness to contribute ideas and work collaboratively
  • Sensitivity and empathy when communicating about issues such as money worries, debt and financial stress

We are especially keen to hear from people who care about fairness, reducing stigma and helping make support more accessible for people experiencing financial challenges.

At YFW, we value people from different backgrounds and experiences and encourage applications from anyone who feels connected to our mission. We understand that not everyone will meet every point listed above, so if you are enthusiastic, motivated and interested in developing your skills while contributing to a growing social enterprise, we would still love to hear from you.

This role is flexible and can be shaped around the volunteer's strengths, interests and availability, with opportunities to gain hands-on experience, build a portfolio and contribute ideas in a supportive environment.

What difference will you make?

How will this role help your organisation?

At Your Financial Wellbeing, we believe financial stress is about far more than money. It can affect mental wellbeing, family relationships, confidence, physical health and a person's ability to participate fully in life. We also recognise that many financial difficulties are linked to wider social issues such as inequality, insecure work, rising living costs and barriers to accessing support.

We are working to improve access to trauma-informed financial wellbeing support while also developing innovative approaches and technology that can strengthen the wider money advice sector.

This volunteer role will play an important part in helping us grow our reach, tell our story and connect with the people and organisations who may benefit from our work. By supporting social media, blogs and digital content, the volunteer will help raise awareness of financial stress, challenge stigma and make information more accessible and easier to understand.

Their contribution will help us communicate important issues linked to financial wellbeing and social justice, including how inequality and financial hardship affect individuals, families and communities. Through engaging and accessible content, they will help more people understand where support is available and why compassionate, person-centred approaches matter.

The role will also support innovation within YFW. We are exploring ethical uses of technology to make financial support easier to access and reduce barriers for people seeking help. The volunteer will help us communicate these ideas clearly and engage partners, communities and stakeholders in our vision.

Ultimately, the volunteer's work will help YFW build awareness, strengthen partnerships and increase our ability to support people experiencing financial stress. As a small but ambitious organisation, this support will make a real difference to how quickly and effectively we can grow our impact and reach more people across Scotland.

This is an opportunity for someone to see the direct impact of their contribution while helping shape an organisation focused on compassion, social justice, innovation and meaningful change.

Good luck with your application
