Community Hall Treasurer
- Reach Volunteering
- Part Time
- Bosbury
Job Description
We're seeking a Volunteer Treasurer to join Bosbury Parish Hall trustees. You'll help oversee finances, support budgeting and reporting, and ensure strong governance so the Hall can thrive as a community hub for events, sport and fundraising.
What will you be doing?
We are looking for someone who can take a clear, steady hand on the Hall's finances and help the committee make confident, informed decisions. You would need Book Keeping or Finance experience, but don't need experience in the Charity Sector.
Key areas include:
- Overseeing day-to-day financial governance alongside the committee
- Monitoring income and expenditure from hall bookings, events, and fundraising
- Helping prepare simple financial reports for trustee meetings
- Supporting annual accounts and compliance requirements
- Advising on budgeting for maintenance, improvements, and fundraising projects
- Helping ensure transparency and good financial practice across the organisation
Current board makeup
The Hall is run by a small, committed team of volunteer trustees with a mix of practical, community, and professional backgrounds. Roles are shared informally, with people stepping in where needed. We have strong energy and local commitment, but limited capacity in specialist financial oversight.
Big challenges we are facing
- Funding and delivering the Sports Hall renovation project
- Increasing regular income through bookings and community use
- Modernising systems (including online booking and financial tracking)
- Ensuring long-term financial sustainability
- Balancing ambition for development with careful financial control
Responsibilities that make this role meaningful
- Bringing clarity and confidence to financial decision-making
- Helping unlock funding and grants through solid financial planning
- Supporting a major community regeneration project
- Ensuring the Hall remains affordable, accessible, and well-managed
- Working closely with a motivated committee that values practical input and ideas
What are we looking for?
We are looking for a reliable, detail-oriented person with previous bookkeeping or finance experience to take on the role of Volunteer Treasurer for Bosbury Parish Hall. This is a key trustee position within a small but ambitious community organisation, so confidence working with financial information is essential.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in one or more of the following:
- Bookkeeping or maintaining financial records
- Preparing or reviewing budgets and basic accounts
- Using spreadsheets to track income and expenditure
- Managing finances within a small business, charity, community group, or similar setting
Formal accounting qualifications are not essential, but a good practical understanding of financial processes is important. You should be comfortable working independently on day-to-day financial tracking, while also being able to present clear, simple summaries to fellow trustees who may not have financial backgrounds.
Beyond technical skills, we are looking for someone who is:
- Organised and methodical, with strong attention to detail
- Comfortable asking questions and challenging assumptions where needed
- Able to explain financial information clearly to others
- Practical, grounded, and able to balance ambition with financial reality
- Willing to work collaboratively as part of a volunteer trustee team
Experience in charity finance, small business accounts, school governance, or similar voluntary roles would be especially valuable. However, we are also open to candidates stepping into their first trustee role if they already have solid bookkeeping or finance experience and the right mindset.
We are particularly interested in people who understand the realities of small community organisations—where resources are limited, but expectations and ambitions are high. Lived experience of working in volunteer-led groups, managing tight budgets, or supporting local community initiatives would be a strong advantage.
Most importantly, we are seeking someone dependable, calm under pressure, and committed to helping ensure the long-term financial sustainability of a valued local asset.
What difference will you make?
This role sits at the heart of making Bosbury Parish Hall sustainable for the long term.
A strong Treasurer will directly enable the Hall to move forward with confidence on its most important priorities: completing the Sports Hall renovation, increasing community use, and building a reliable income base that reduces reliance on short-term fundraising pressure.
Your financial oversight will help the committee:
- Make better decisions about spending, pricing, and investment
- Strengthen grant and funding applications with clear, credible financial plans
- Improve transparency and trust with the wider community and funders
- Spot risks early and help prevent financial surprises
- Turn ambition into achievable, properly costed projects
Beyond the numbers, the impact is very real. The Hall is a key community asset used for sport, events, social activity, and local gatherings. Better financial leadership means:
- More opportunities for young people and adult sport
- A more active and connected village community
- A renovated space that can be used year-round
- A stronger, more resilient organisation that can serve future generations
In short, this is not just a bookkeeping role. It is a pivotal trustee position that directly shapes what the Hall can become over the next 5-10 years.
