Job Description
Join the Advisory Board of a growing lived experience-led CIC supporting care-experienced and marginalised young people. We are seeking a Finance Advisor/Director to strengthen governance, sustainability, and social impact through financial oversight and strategic support.
What will you be doing?
Who Cares Consultancy C.I.C. is currently strengthening its Advisory Board as the organisation moves into a new stage of growth, funding, and programme delivery. We are a lived experience-led organisation supporting care-experienced and marginalised young people through practical independence programmes, participation, training, and community-based projects.
Alongside our linked trading company, we are developing and expanding My Book of Independence and the wider Real Lives, Real Tools model, combining practical resources, lived experience-led facilitation, and training for professionals working with young people.
Our board currently consists of advisors and directors with backgrounds across youth work, leadership, participation, safeguarding, legal, compliance and organisational development. As we continue to grow, we are looking to strengthen our financial governance and oversight to ensure the organisation develops with strong accountability, transparency, and sustainability.
We are seeking a Finance Advisor/Director who can provide strategic oversight and support around budgeting, financial controls, reporting, compliance, and long-term financial planning across both the CIC and its linked trading structure.
The role will include:
- Advising on financial governance and accountability
- Reviewing budgets, forecasts, and financial processes
- Supporting the development of robust financial controls and reporting systems
- Helping ensure grant and restricted funding is managed appropriately
- Providing challenge and support to the leadership team as the organisation grows
This is an exciting opportunity to join an organisation at a key stage of development and help shape its long-term sustainability and impact. The successful candidate will play an important role in helping build a credible, well-governed organisation capable of delivering meaningful change for young people and communities.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for someone with strong financial knowledge and a genuine interest in supporting a growing lived experience-led organisation focused on improving outcomes for care-experienced and marginalised young people.
Our ideal trustee/advisor will have experience in at least one of the following:
- Accounting, bookkeeping, audit, or financial management
- Financial governance, compliance, or risk management
- Budget monitoring and reporting
- Charity, CIC, or non-profit finance
- Funding, grants, or financial controls
Professional qualifications such as ACCA, ACA, CIMA, AAT, or equivalent experience would be welcomed but are not essential if you can demonstrate strong financial understanding and governance awareness.
We are particularly looking for someone who:
- Can provide both support and constructive challenge
- Understands the importance of transparency and accountability
- Is comfortable explaining financial information to non-finance audiences
- Wants to contribute to the long-term sustainability and growth of a purpose-driven organisation
- Previous trustee, governor, or advisory board experience would be beneficial but is not essential.
An understanding of community organisations, youth services, social care, or lived experience-led work would also be valuable.
What difference will you make?
This role will play a vital part in helping our organisation grow with strong financial governance, sustainability, and accountability at its core.
As a developing CIC moving into funded programme delivery, training, and partnership work, we are at an important stage where robust financial oversight and strategic support are essential. The successful candidate will help strengthen our financial systems, support good decision-making, and ensure funding is managed transparently and effectively.
Their support will directly contribute to the long-term sustainability of the organisation, helping us continue to expand opportunities and support for care-experienced and marginalised young people.
This includes supporting the development of:
- Practical independence programmes
- Lived experience-led training and facilitation opportunities
- Community projects and workshops
- Resources that help young people build confidence and prepare for adulthood
The role will also help strengthen funder confidence as we continue applying for grants, building partnerships, and developing our linked CIC and trading structure.
