Trustee with fundraising Experience

Reach Volunteering

Job Description

We are a UK registered charity supporting women entrepreneurs in Nigeria through low interest business loans and financial empowerment. We seek a trustee with fundraising experience to help grow donor partnerships and support our long-term impact and sustainability.

What will you be doing?

We are an early-stage UK registered charity focused on supporting women entrepreneurs in Africa through low interest microloans, financial empowerment initiatives, and ethical community based lending. Our long-term goal is to create a sustainable lending model that helps women grow small businesses, increase family income, and build long term economic stability within their communities.

As a developing organisation, we are currently building our founding trustee board and strengthening the governance, fundraising, and operational structures needed to support responsible growth. One of our biggest priorities is establishing strong donor relationships in the UK while ensuring the organisation is built with transparency, accountability, and long-term sustainability at its core.

We are seeking a trustee with fundraising experience who can play a strategic role in helping shape our fundraising approach during this important early phase. This may include advising on donor engagement, helping identify funding opportunities, supporting grant and partnership development, and contributing ideas around sustainable fundraising strategies appropriate for a growing charity.

The trustee will work closely with the founding board as we develop our pilot programmes and establish the foundations for future growth. There is also an exciting opportunity to help shape the culture, direction, and long term impact of the organisation from an early stage.

This role is particularly important because we are building a model focused on sustainable empowerment rather than one off aid. By supporting women to grow income generating businesses through ethical lending and financial support, we hope to create lasting community impact and opportunities for economic independence.

We are especially excited to welcome someone who wants to contribute strategically to a mission driven organisation at the beginning of its journey and help us build something meaningful, transparent, and scalable over time.

What are we looking for?

We are seeking a trustee with fundraising experience who is passionate about social impact, women's empowerment, and sustainable community development. Ideally you'll bring strategic fundraising knowledge and be excited by the opportunity to help shape and grow an organisation focused on ethical microfinance and financial inclusion.

We are particularly interested in individuals with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Charity fundraising or donor engagement
  • Grant funding and trust applications
  • Corporate partnerships or CSR
  • Philanthropy or major donor development
  • Charity governance or trustee experience
  • Social enterprise or community development

We value people who are collaborative, thoughtful, and willing to contribute strategically as part of a founding trustee board. We are looking for someone who can provide guidance, challenge constructively where needed, and help strengthen the organisation's long term sustainability and impact.

An interest in Africa, women's economic empowerment, poverty reduction, or financial inclusion would be highly valued. Previous trustee experience is welcome but not essential.

Most importantly, we are looking for someone who believes in the power of economic opportunity to create lasting change and who is motivated by the chance to use their skills to support women entrepreneurs and underserved communities.

What difference will you make?

Across the world, women are disproportionately affected by poverty and financial exclusion, particularly in low income communities. In sub-Saharan Africa, millions of women operate small informal businesses yet remain locked out of affordable finance, business support, and opportunities to grow. Despite this, women consistently reinvest more of their income into their families and communities than men, supporting children's education, food security, healthcare, and long-term household stability.

Access to even small amounts of fair and affordable finance can have a transformative impact. A loan used to expand market stock, purchase equipment, increase inventory, or start a small income generating activity can help a woman increase her earnings, gain financial independence, and create greater security for her family. The effects extend far beyond one individual business owner. When women are economically empowered, communities often experience wider social benefits including improved education outcomes for children, reduced financial vulnerability, increased local economic activity, and stronger community resilience.

As a trustee, your expertise and leadership will help make this possible. Beyond the title itself, your skills, guidance, and strategic thinking will contribute to building opportunities for women who may otherwise never gain access to affordable financial support. Your contribution will help shape an organisation designed to create sustainable, long term impact through empowerment rather than dependency.

This is an opportunity to use your professional experience in a meaningful and practical way helping build systems, partnerships, and funding strategies that can support women entrepreneurs, strengthen families, and contribute to wider economic and social change over time. The decisions made at board level today have the potential to influence lives and communities for years to come.

Good luck with your application
