Job description

Were looking for an individual with experience of supporting engagement and communications work to join the Governments Chief AI Officer Group in GDS as part of the Public Sector AI team. This is a rare opportunity to shape how government communicates and engages on one of its highest‑profile priorities: the adoption of artificial intelligence across the public sector. You will be working on a range of exciting programmes to re-imagine how public services are delivered and how AI can help citizens have a better experience of interacting with government. This is a high-priority area for government and attracts substantial attention from colleagues across government, parliament, the public sector and civil society.

The role focuses on communications, engagement and secretariat delivery, supporting flagship cross-government activity including high-profile senior forums such as the AI Leaders Group and the Responsible AI Panel, as well as targeted departmental deep-dives on AI adoption challenges. The postholder will play a key role in ensuring these forums are well run and that the Units engagement with departments and stakeholders is coordinated, high quality and impactful. You will work closely with policy, delivery and technical stakeholders across government, as well as communications colleagues in GDS, DSIT and departments, to support engagement activity that helps drive real-world adoption of AI. The successful candidate will be confident working with senior audiences, highly organised, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

You will

  • Provide secretariat support for high-profile senior groups, such as the AI Leaders Group and the Responsible AI Panel. You will work closely with AI leaders to deliver high-quality agendas, papers, actions and meeting readouts
  • Plan, coordinate and manage end-to-end logistics for senior meetings and engagement forums including cross-government meetings, panels, and targeted departmental deep-dives, ensuring papers are produced to a high standard and on time
  • Support delivery of the Units communications and engagement activity, including drafting and maintaining engagement materials such as core messaging, decks and engagement logs
  • Work with colleagues across GDS, DSIT and other departments to coordinate communications and engagement activity, ensuring consistency of messaging and approach across senior forums
  • Support the delivery of events, workshops and community activity, including stakeholder sessions, cross-government engagement and themed discussions linked to AI adoption challenges
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with officials across government and beyond to support engagement on AI adoption and responsible AI
  • Track actions, decisions and follow-ups from meetings, panels and engagement activity, ensuring good governance, clear ownership and delivery discipline

Person specification

Essential Criteria:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience drafting clear, concise materials for a range of audiences, including senior stakeholders
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines and stakeholders simultaneously
  • Experience of providing secretariat support for senior groups, boards or forums
  • Experience supporting communications and engagement activity, including events, stakeholder engagement or community building
  • Confidence working with a wide range of stakeholders across large organisations
  • Attention to detail, good judgement, and the ability to work proactively both independently and as part of a team

Desirable Criteria:

  • An interest in emerging technologies such as AI and the role of technology in transforming public services.
