Security Services Group (SSG) is the MODs Technical Authority for electronic and physical security providing in-house expert advice, design, installation and maintenance of electronic and physical security systems across Government, prioritised towards Secret and Above Secret, and items Attractive to Criminal and Terrorist Organisations (ACTO). SSG is part of GUARDIAN and is positioned within Standing Joint Command to support UK homeland security and resilience.

With an FTE of 325, SSG provides technical specialist consultancy advice to projects to support the creation of design specifications through to commissioning; project management and delivery with through life maintenance; strategic and tactical compliance assurance reviews and audits across the business; an assured government use only Intruder Detection System built in-house; and security furniture services. Head of SSG is also the MODs Head of Specialism for Physical Security across the MOD (part of the Government Security Profession).

SSGs Operational Delivery teams are the MODs specialist in-house security providers, delivering project management, design, installation and 24/7, 365 days a year maintenance of all aspects of electronic and physical security, with a global reach. This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description

The post holder will provide Operational support to the Southeast team in relation to the installation & maintenance of security systems, whilst ensuring that a professional, efficient & cost-effective service is delivered to SSGs customers. The successful applicant will assist maintenance and project team and be a point of contact for customer call outs, logging of calls on SSG maintenance system (CASH); allocating calls to SZ4 Technicians, closing jobs, with assistance from SMEs quoting customers and raising invoicing to clients in accordance with desk notes; raising requisitions for goods (parts/access hire/clothing/PPE/capital project works etc.) assisting the CASH team; input of operations; filing; project archiving & general office management.

Successful applicants depending on location will be based at Engineer House Woolwich. There will also be occasional requirements to travel and work within the various SSG offices as part of the role. You will be provided with the use of a hire or pool vehicle or car share for travel, together with opportunities for overtime and travelling time depending on business needs.

Key responsbilities include:

  • Coordinate day‑to‑day operational activity on behalf of the Team Leaders and Maintenance/Project Managers to enable effective service delivery across the Southeast Region.
  • Oversee the coordination and tracking of installation activities, maintenance jobs, site records, and operational data to support efficient delivery.
  • Act as a regional operational interface for customer call‑outs, including Facilities Management Companies and Other Government Departments (OGDs).
  • Coordinate call‑out activity by logging tasks, tracking progress, and maintaining accurate operational records on the CASH system.
  • Maintain operational flow by providing timely job updates to customers and responding to service‑related enquiries.
  • Ensure operational assurance through follow‑up with customers for outstanding covering orders linked to call‑outs.
  • Liaise with Field Technicians to resolve delays in reports, dockets, and job close‑out information.
  • Coordinate revenue and service assurance activity through the accurate raising of customer invoices in line with contracts, desk notes, and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Process confirmation of receipt of goods and services through receipting on the CASH purchasing system.
  • Contribute to the effective running of the Southeast Region Operations Offices, including Engineer House Woolwich, through coordination of day‑to‑day operational activity.
  • Assist as the Engineer House Office Operations Custodian, coordinating building services, works activity, fire alarm testing, and assist as the local Health & Safety focal point.
  • Coordinate site access arrangements for visitors and contractors in line with operational requirements.
  • Maintain regular operational liaison with customers to support service continuity and issue resolution.
  • Provide cover to the point of contact for equipment serviceability matters, including laptops, SIM cards, Meter Calibration and mobile phones.
  • Coordinate the ordering and availability of operational consumables for engineers, including vehicle oil, AdBlue, and VSS cleaning equipment.
  • Arrange travel and accommodation in support of operational delivery, ensuring value for money and compliance, including group bookings where required.
  • Coordinate pool and hire vehicle arrangements and liaise with central business support to maintain operational mobility.
  • Monitor mandatory and functional training compliance to ensure ongoing operational readiness.
  • Monitor staff vetting status in line with customer and contractual requirements.
  • Contribute to project and operational governance by attending meetings, recording actions, and tracking delivery decisions.
  • Assist management with labour planning and coordination of resources.
  • Coordinate provision of PPE, clothing, stationery, and tooling to ensure teams are appropriately equipped.
  • Maintain operational records, filing, and archiving systems, including project and site documentation.
  • Liaise with client site contacts to confirm completion of call‑outs and operational works.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of regional operational activity as the Southeast operational delivery team grows, adapting responsibilities to meet evolving delivery needs.

Person specification

Essential Skills, Experience, Qualifications, Memberships & Licences

  • A Full UK Driving Licence - The post holder will be required to occasionally travel to support the Operations Team from other business areas within SSG which are not easily accessible by public transport. Driving a vehicle is a requirement of the job and therefore a full driving licence is required.
  • Fluent in MS Office suite of products.
