Principal Analyst
Job Description
Principal Analyst
About the role
As a Principal Analyst, you'll play a key role in setting fair and accurate prices across our diverse portfolio of products, using advanced analytical and modelling techniques to predict claims behaviour and inform pricing decisions.
You'll act as a technical role model within the Pricing function, applying your general insurance pricing expertise to design, build and maintain loss cost/risk models. This includes extracting, validating and analysing data, identifying underlying trends and drivers of performance, and translating complex outputs into clear, meaningful insights that support decision-making and wider business objectives.
Alongside your technical contribution, you'll support the development of the wider analyst community by reviewing work, providing guidance and sharing knowledge. This role includes coaching and technical mentoring of less experienced analysts, but does not involve formal line management responsibilities.
Working in Pricing at NFU Mutual feels genuinely different. With a clear focus on customers rather than shareholders, the team's work has real impact — supporting local communities, protecting livelihoods, and helping our UK wide Agency Network deliver exceptional service. Our Pricing team is central to how we support our customers, and its role is becoming even more crucial. The team is now at the heart of one of NFU Mutual's most significant transformation programmes, shaping how pricing will operate in the future to ensure fair, insight driven outcomes.
To deliver this transformation, the team is expanding and creating exciting opportunities to join at a pivotal moment. This is a rare chance to influence a high profile, business wide initiative where your work will be visible, valued and acted on. By working closely with colleagues across the business, you'll play an important role in shaping NFU Mutual's future. Beyond the transformation, you'll join a Pricing team committed to continuous improvement, offering ongoing opportunities to grow, add value and make a real difference. If you want to drive meaningful transformation while developing your own career, now is the ideal time to join us.
About you
You'll bring a strong blend of technical pricing expertise and interpersonal skills, with the ability to analyse complex data, build robust models and translate outputs into clear, meaningful insight. You're naturally curious, comfortable challenging assumptions, and motivated by solving problems that support fair pricing and better customer outcomes.
You'll enjoy working collaboratively with others, engaging confidently with stakeholders across the business, and adapting your communication style to suit both technical and non-technical audiences. You'll be proactive and authentic in your approach, and keen to support the development of others through coaching and knowledge sharing.
Experience using Python and building Gradient Boosting Models (GBMs), or exposure to other advanced modelling techniques, would be desirable but is not essential.
At NFU Mutual, we support an inclusive workplace and value all the differences that make us unique. We celebrate the creativity and innovation that comes from diverse perspectives and experiences and share a common vision of doing the right thing for our customers and employees.
We recognise that some candidates may experience barriers during the recruitment process. So, we encourage candidates to discuss any adjustments or accommodations they need to be the best they can be throughout our recruitment process.
We're proud to be a Disability Confident Employer, a Race at Work and Women in Finance Charter signatory and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, regardless of age, ethnicity, disability, neurodiversity, gender, religion, marital status, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic background.
