Job summary

We are looking to recruit an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to work with Older Adults presenting with communication difficulties and dysphagia within the Slough and Bracknell OPMH Community Services. The teams support patients with both dementia and functional mental health difficulties.

You will need to provide specialist clinical advice and support regarding communication, differential diagnosis assessment & dysphagia, as well as develop related treatment plans for our patients. SLT intervention will be in conjunction with other Care pathways and treatment provided.

We are friendly, dynamic and supportive teams, and you will have the opportunity to work across two very diverse localities. You will be actively encouraged to develop in your role within the team, and have regular access to supervision, training and peer support in your role.

Main duties of the job

  • Providing assessment, advice and support to patients with communication difficulties that are currently open to the service (one to one and in groups). Developing, monitoring and reviewing related treatment plans.

  • Working closely with and supporting colleagues within the MDT, providing specialist advice and support around communication and/or swallowing issue

Person Specification

Education/Qualifications

Essential

  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent Licence to Practice
  • Registration with Health Care Professionals Council.

Desirable

  • Registered Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapist

Training

Essential

  • Evidence of successful post-graduate study through CPD portfolio
  • MSc or at least 3 years experience in co-working with expert practitioners and undertaking specialist formal training.

Previous Experience

Essential

  • Excellent interpersonal skills - including observation, listening and empathy skills
  • Good negotiation and problem solving skills
  • Excellent presentation skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Prioritisation skills
  • Good auditory discrimination skills and ability to transcribe speech phonetically
  • Knowledge of national policies and procedures both NHS, Government and local Authority relevant to the client group.
  • Understanding of the roles of other professionals (relevant to the client group)
  • Knowledge of standards of record keeping

Additional Requirements

Essential

  • Valid driving licence and access to a vehicle
  • Ability to travel to multiple sites
