Here, neon-lit skyscrapers stand alongside verdant swathes of rainforest and wildlife parks, where visitors can spot exotic animals – such as orangutans, leopards, and Malayan tigers. When you’re finished, why not duck into a trattoria for some fritto misto or a buranello (a local delicacy similar to shortbread)? Many travellers choose to pair their trip to Burano with a stop at nearby Murano, another colourful island in the Venetian Lagoon.
