Job summary

This role sits at the heart of the Defence Nuclear Enterprise (DNE), responsible for delivering and sustaining the UKs nuclear deterrent and submarine programmesone of the Governments highest national security priorities. The DNE brings together a unique partnership of organisations across Defence and industry, including the Defence Nuclear Organisation (DNO), Royal Navy, Strategic Command, Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE), Submarine Delivery Group (SDG), and key civil partners.

With an annual budget exceeding 10bn (c.20% of the MODs total spend), the DNE is undertaking a once-in-a-generation transformation. Delivering this mission requires multiple complex programmes to be executed in parallel, at unprecedented scale and pace.

As covered in the 2026 DNE Area Plan, the Enterprise is driving significant reform to improve integration, pace and coherence across delivery. Central to this is the creation of a new 2* Enterprise Portfolio Directorate, responsible for overseeing the full DNE portfoliostrengthening grip on interdependencies, improving decision-making through better management information, and embedding a more professional, enterprise-wide approach to programme delivery.

The Enterprise Portfolio Team (EPT) plays a pivotal role within this transformation. It ensures that decisions are taken on a best for enterprise basisoptimising across the six DNE Portfolios to manage risk, maximise value, and translate strategic intent into delivery outcomes.

The EPT delivers this through four core capabilities:

  • Enterprise Portfolio Office integrating planning, prioritisation and performance across the portfolio
  • Enterprise Analytics and Insight providing data-driven decision support and forward-looking insight
  • Project Delivery Function strengthening delivery frameworks and standards
  • Project Delivery Profession building capability and professionalism across the workforce

Together, these capabilities define how the Enterprise plans, delivers and adaptsensuring focus on what matters, when it matters, and why it matters.

Job description

You will join the Enterprise Portfolio Team (EPT) as Head of Management Information (MI) and Reporting, reporting to the Enterprise Portfolio Office Deputy Director. In this role, you will work at the centre of the Defence Nuclear Enterprise (DNE), collaborating across the Enterprise Portfolio Team , and the six major delivery portfolios to support the successful delivery of some of the UKs most complex programmes.

This is a high-impact leadership role in a fast-paced environment, where you will shape how data and insight drive decision-making at the most senior levels. You will lead a team of specialists to develop and deliver a coherent, enterprise-wide approach to MI and reportingensuring that leaders have the clarity and confidence they need to make critical investment and delivery decisions.

You will play a key part in strengthening enterprise performance, improving transparency, and embedding a more consistent and professional approach to project delivery across the DNE.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team to define and deliver the DNE-wide standard for management information and reporting
  • Drive consistent, high-quality enterprise reporting that enables evidence-based decisions, effective portfolio balancing, and timely intervention
  • Work collaboratively across Defence and with external partners to define and implement MI requirements and standards across a complex, multi-organisation environment
  • Oversee the design and delivery of senior-level reporting products up to Secretary of State, ensuring clear, impactful insight and narrative
  • Ensure MI is accurate, timely and accessiblesupporting both strategic leadership discussions and detailed interrogation where required
  • Lead innovation in data and reporting, including the use of advanced analytics and automation to improve efficiency and insight
  • Champion strong data governance and coherence across the Enterprise
  • Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders, acting as a trusted advisor on performance, insight and reporting
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, learning and professional development within your team
  • Champion Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) and support the delivery of the EPT strategy and wider transformation agenda

This role requires regular engagement across a highly secure environment. Hybrid and flexible working is supported where possible, but regular on-site attendance will be required.

As the post holder will have access to very sensitive information, there are limitations on travelling to a small number of countries and we will undertake additional security checks as part of the recruitment process. Person specification

This is an excellent opportunity for a strategic leader with experience in MI and reporting, and project delivery.

The ideal candidate will have the following:

Essential Qualifications:

  • Hold a relevant project delivery qualification (e.g. bachelors degree in a relevant subject, Managing Successful Programmes (MSP), APM Qualification, Prince 2, Agile, Management of Port-folios)

Essential Skills:

  • Leading development of robust and reliable MI & Reporting for senior leaders.
  • Use of data & MI tools (e.g. PowerBI, PowerQuery, Palantir, Tableau).
  • Proven track record in project, programme and portfolio management.
  • Knowledge and application of portfolio, programme and project management methodologies (e.g. Managing Successful Programmes (MSP), PRINCE 2, Agile).
  • Must be a team player and have a proven track record of complex stakeholder management, col-laborative working and engagement with senior leaders, with the ability to influence, change and impact decisions through those relationships to influence decision makers.
  • An articulate communicator with the ability to simplify and articulate technical language to influence and communicate across organisational boundaries and at all levels. Communicating insight clearly, through a variety of appropriate methods incl. data visualisation, with senior stakeholders.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Hold a relevant Data, MI and reporting qualification (e.g., bachelors degree in a relevant subject, Certified Business Intelligence Professional (CBIP), Certified Data Scientist (CDS), Certified Analytics Professional (CAP), Certified Data Governance Professional (CDGP).
  • Advanced Microsoft 365.
  • Government Project Delivery Accreditation.

Desirable Skills:

  • Leading development of robust and reliable Portfolio/Enterprise MI & Reporting for senior leaders.
  • Knowledge and experience of Defence, or applicable experience in a similar sector.
  • At least one of: R, Python, SQL, PowerApps, Azure, Dataverse / Fabric.
  • Previous experience of Defence programme and portfolio management and/or experience of the delivery of military capability programmes.
  • Experience preferably aligned to Government Project Delivery Profession or Association of Project Management frameworks.
  • Experience of working with cross-government initiatives.
