As a member of the Joint Training Team within Enabling Services, you will support the achievement of these key priorities, making a real difference to the lives of people in Shropshire. The Joint Training Team delivers a comprehensive programme of health and social care training, through both live online sessions and face-to-face classroom delivery. As a valued member of the team, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of corporate priorities, making a meaningful difference to the lives of people across Shropshire. Overview of your role This post plays a vital role in delivering the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training in Learning Disability and Autism (Oliver's Training) for health and social care staff. As a learning and development officer delivering this training, you will have an in-depth understanding of learning disability and autism and are likely to have training experience. You will lead and support co-trainers who will be autistic and people with a learning disability. Supervising the expert co-trainers who have been appointed specifically due to their lived experience, the postholder will lead the delivery of the national training material and provide support to the expert co-trainers themselves. The postholder will help learners understand their responsibilities in supporting individuals with a learning disability or autism, aiming to improve the quality of care. Training will be delivered through in-person sessions (7 hours) for groups of up to 30 participants. This post will be pivotal in the delivery of the training across Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin but will also provide significant day to day leadership and support to the expert co-trainers. Who will your manager be and what will you be responsible for? You will be: ▪ ▪ reporting to the Operations Manager - Learning and Development who is in turn responsible for your health and safety, training and development. responsible and accountable for 7 casual expert co-trainers who are autistic and people with a learning disability, acting in a supervisory/managerial capacity, ensuring appropriate support, monitoring performance, supporting development and undertaking annual appraisals. This number will increase as the Oliver's Training team expands to capacity. ▪ expected to lead and/or contribute to a range of projects and build relations with both internal and external partners in order achieve specified outcomes but will not have direct authority over those involved. ▪ Working with Business Support to ensure that your work is carried out within identified budget allocations. ▪ Responsible for preparing responses in line with Shropshire Council's corporate processes and national/regulatory/statutory processes (e.g. complaints, MP enquiries, Information Governance requests, customer enquiries, media enquiries, HR staff investigations etc.). These responses should be in line with the quality and timescale expectations set out within Shropshire Council's published procedures and/or case allocation emails and discussions. ▪ Responsible for completing within expected timescales all mandatory corporate and role specific training. ▪ Training requirements will be detailed in your corporate induction and Personal Development Plan (PDP). Courses are accessed via the council Learning Management System via the Intranet. What will you be doing? ▪ Leading on the delivery of Tier 2 Oliver's Training to Shropshire Council staff, and local NHS provider organisations and health social care providers. ▪ Working with local NHS provider organisations and Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Integrated Care Board to plan and deliver their Oliver's Training requirements. ▪ Identifying, developing, and sustaining effective new and ongoing partnership arrangements. ▪ Regularly delivering Tier 2 of The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism, working with expert co-trainers to do so. This is a full day face to face training session to be delivered at a variety of locations across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, focusing on Shrewsbury, Telford, Oswestry and Wem. Sessions will be delivered to large groups that are multi-professional, multi-agency. The sessions will utilise a range of methods, including traditional training delivery, group discussions, and film. ▪ Role modelling exemplary behaviour in terms of conduct, attitude, performance, when delivering Oliver's Training and demonstrating best practice facilitating training. ▪ Employing learning interventions that are learner centred and ensuring that all learning outcomes are fully achieved. ▪ Recognising and addressing the needs of individuals and the group prior to, during and after the session. ▪ Helping to keep participants and staff safe and confident in their surroundings and acting on safeguarding and health and safety concerns in line with organisation policies. ▪ Appropriately challenging poor practice. ▪ Undertaking a supervisory role for expert co-trainers, ensuring appropriate support, leadership and coaching in line with organisational expectations. Ensuring they are fully included and supported in the delivery of the sessions, helping them to develop skills and confidence. This co-development and delivery enhances the learning experience for our audience, who say they value this element of the training. ▪ Working with Shropshire Council's Enable Employment Service to recruit and train additional lived experience co-trainers for Oliver's Training as needed. ▪ Working with other Tier 2 Oliver's Training facilitating trainers within the team to co-ordinate delivery of sessions and ensure consistency within the training offer. ▪ Attending meetings and training to develop relevant skills and knowledge and ensure consistent and high-quality delivery. Keeping up to date with current and emerging thinking in health and social care practice, learning disability and autism, laws of consent (UK), The Mental Capacity Act 2005, The Human Rights Act 1998, The Autism Act 2009, Do not attempt cardiovascular resuscitation case law (DNACPR), LeDeR and other associated data. ▪ Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with managers, colleagues, partners, and expert co-trainers to achieve required outcomes. This will include leading and facilitating meetings, sharing information, supporting problem solving and decision-making processes. ▪ Reflecting and working positively with partners and team members to support the quality and performance agenda and to continually improve. Carrying out a range of tasks to support monitoring and evaluation. Identifying trends and issues, escalating and acting on these as appropriate. ▪ Monitoring designated budgets and resources and taking appropriate action to manage budgets to target. Developing and maintaining own knowledge and understanding of external funding routes to enable effective responses to bidding opportunities. ▪ Maintaining and continually developing an understanding and awareness of issues related to diversity and anti-discriminatory practice and demonstrating this in carrying out duties and responsibilities. ▪ Observing and practising the organisation's policies on Confidentiality.
