As a member of the Supported Internship Team within Enable you will support the achievement of these key priorities, making a real difference to the lives of people in Shropshire. Enable is Shropshire Council's employment service for people with health conditions or disabilities and has teams specialising in mental health employment, learning disability and autism employment and employment of young people with SEND or who are NEET or at risk of NEET. Overview of your role The post holder will work with a range of disabled people to support them on their journey to paid employment. The aim will be to achieve paid employment which may include a period of pre-employment support (including on Supported Internship programme). The post holder will also work with retention clients who may be at risk of losing their jobs. The Supported Internships Employment Officer must be able to work under pressure and meet targets and deadlines whilst ensuring delivery aligns with the Supported Internship Quality Assurance Framework and maintains a high standard of customer service. Who will your manager be and what will you be responsible for? You will be: ▪ reporting to Senior Disabilities Employment Officer who is in turn responsible for your health and safety, training and development. ▪ expected to contribute to a range of projects and build relations with both internal and external partners in order achieve specified outcomes but will not have direct authority over those involved. ▪ Responsible for completing within expected timescales all mandatory corporate and role specific training. Training requirements will be detailed in your corporate induction and Personal Development Plan (PDP). Courses are accessed via the council Learning Management System via the Intranet. What will you be doing? ▪ working with colleagues and to ensure the team functions successfully in support of the Council's corporate and service objectives. ▪ integration with social care teams, college staff and external agencies across Herefordshire to enhance the employment pathway for disabled service users. ▪ communicate effectively with jobseekers/students on a one-to-one basis, some of whom have significant barriers to employment and education. ▪ provide advice and placement support to students and job seekers throughout their journey to employment, to include initial assessment, vocational profiling, job search intervention. support, recruitment support, in work support and retention ▪ assessing of individual students and jobseekers' employment situation and their to ensure achievement of and sustained employment/placement. needs ▪ ensuring individual targets are met and contribution to team performance targets. ▪ be responsible for regularly reviewing clients progress against the Individual Development Plan to ensure targets are met. Where targets are not being met, or progress towards achieving them is slower than anticipated, the reasons for this are identified and addressed. ▪ advice on future employment and career options where they are not provided by other agencies. ▪ engage with employers to encourage them to offer vacancies and placements, develop inclusive recruitment practices and monitoring placements to ensure compliance with our Health & Safety, Equality & Diversity, Safeguarding and Sustainability Procedures. ▪ be confident in marketing jobseekers to local employers and preparing them for interview. ▪ completion of all relevant Enable/DFN paperwork and electronic reporting systems. ▪ undertake a range of tracking initiatives to capture all outcome and contract evidence requirements. ▪ complying with Enable's Quality Standards and SIQAF model ▪ Provide initial information on welfare benefits in relation to employment and refer to relevant agencies as appropriate. ▪ Demonstrate an understanding and awareness of issues related to equal opportunities and discrimination practice. ▪ taking an active part in identified training and development and continuing personal and vocational development activities. ▪ contributing to training and publicity as required. ▪ safe systems of work in accordance with the Directorate's Health, Safety and Welfare policies and procedures. ▪ carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the Line Manager. The post-holder will promote and engage with Council's responsibility to safeguard the welfare of children, young people and adults, and protect their right to be safe from harm. What are your conditions of Service The conditions of service are those laid down by Shropshire Council, which have been adopted and amended as necessary from those laid down by the National Joint Council for Local Government Services. You will be based at Hereford College Campus (Head Office for Enable is New Zealand House, Shrewsbury. However, there are offices in Ludlow, Shropshire). Your post is subject to the following: ▪ The post is flexible up to 37 hours. ▪ Normal office hours are 08:45-17:00 Monday - Thursday. 08:45-16:00 - Friday. Occasional evening/weekend work may be required, ▪ The post is subject to the Council's annualised hours scheme as implemented within the specific work area. This post carries eligibility to join the Local Government Pension Scheme. Information about this will be sent with any formal offer of appointment. Annual leave entitlement is a pro rata flat rate scheme of 207 hours (28 days) annual leave plus bank holidays, with five days extra awarded to those staff with five years local government service giving an entitlement of 244 hours (33 days). Two days of an employee's allowance (pro rota for part time staff) must be taken at Christmas for any potential Christmas closures. Employees who work in a building/service which is required to open over the Christmas period, the two days leave (pro rota) can be carried over into your next leave year but must be used by the end of March. The appointment is subject to one months' notice in writing on either side. The appointment is subject to six months' satisfactory probationary service during which time the notice period will be one week on either side. Smoking is not allowed in Council buildings, in Council vehicles or in any Council place of work. It is a condition of your appointment that you provide a suitable vehicle for the performance of your duties and that this is readily available for use during normal working hours. You are entitled to claim for reimbursement of the costs of travel on council business at the rate of 55 pence per mile. What pre-employment checks will we undertake?
