I think we all suffer from tired aching legs at some point in our lives but, as we get older, it is probably more frequent. I have recently been waking up and finding my ankles are very sore when I first walk on them. I have been diagnosed with bad circulation in my legs, particularly on my right leg. So when I was contacted by Revitive and asked to try out their Medic Coach (a drug-free, clinically proven, certified medical device), I was keen to give it a whirl. To be honest, at my age, to be less achy would be marvellous, having broken a few bones in the past few years.
Firstly I was impressed by the professional design of the device and clarity of display together with a comprehensive manual. It arrives in a box with a plug-in charger. One full charge lasts for six hours of treatment. It also comes with one set of Electrode Body Pads – more about them later. It is very simple to operate. First, read the instruction manual to ensure you understand all of the safeguards.
Then just take off your shoes and socks and pop your feet on the SoftTouch footpads. Turn the machine on and then press the + sign until you can feel the stimulation. Once you are used to this feeling, it becomes a really nice sensation. I am completely addicted and have two sessions i.e. approximately one hour in the evening when I sit down to watch television. I have reduced the intensity number on the control panel after only using it for two weeks, which means my circulation is improving. The device will sometimes rock forward during the programme i.e. it does not give you the same feeling throughout the 30 minutes, it cycles through a range of different processes.
When my children came home last weekend, the boys were very keen to try it out too. They are very fit and run a lot but suffer from tight hamstrings. They loved it too. They said it really relaxed their legs. One of the boys tried out the Electrode body pads on their back, and it definitely gave them the relief they had wanted.
Interestingly my younger dog was quite disturbed by it even though it is silent. Rather sweetly, he tried to pull my foot off the pad. I guess he is sensitive to electronic pulses, so I put him in another room whilst I am using it.
Revitive recommends using it at a high enough intensity to give you a strong, comfortable muscle contraction. Most people achieve a strong muscle contraction over intensity level 40 (intensity range 1-99). My husband uses it at a much higher intensity, about 60, to our children, meaning he must need it. My children found anything over 20 too intense. However, it is not a competition. At first, I felt nothing, and then gradually, I started to get a tingling sensation. It is best to start at a low intensity and then increase when you feel able to. It is not meant to be an unpleasant feeling.
Whether you need to increase or decrease intensity does depend on your symptoms; for example, if you suffer from a lack of circulation and, as a result, a lack of sensation in your legs you might find that you are able to decrease the intensity after a few weeks.
Symptoms of poor circulation are often easy to spot. They include muscle cramping, constant foot pain, and pain and throbbing in the arms and legs. As well as fatigue, varicose veins, and digestive issues. Leg cramps while walking and wounds that don’t seem to heal in your legs, feet, and toes are also symptoms.
Revitive also comes with one pair of reusable (up to 20-30 applications) electrode Body Pads which can be used to deliver Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) to other parts of the body. Please note the only programme available in manual mode is Body Pad EMS Programme. If you wish to use TENS, you will need to download the App.
The App:
I trialled the top model – the Revitive Medic Coach, which is the one that comes with wifi connection and is referred to in Lord Botham’s video. If you download the free app, register and answer all the medical questions, they design a programme for you. This means that you can pop your feet onto the pad, turn it on, then go to the app and press start, which sets the machine at the correct level. Sometimes it gets you to increase the intensity during the programme, so keep your eye on your phone. The instructions on the app are extremely easy to follow. This is the only model that comes with this facility, and I think it is worth the extra money. I know we are all being very careful, but our health is vitally important, and better circulation must be beneficial all around. If this machine can keep me active for longer, then I am going to continue using it.
I must mention that my programme is very different to my husband’s. I start with it at about 65 for 10 minutes of very intensive pulsing. Then I have 30 minutes in a much lower setting. When I first received the Revitive Medic, I tried it without the app to get used to the feeling. I am now in the middle of a 10-day programme. I do Yoga and Pilates, plus I dog walk, so my legs get lots of workouts, but this is really helping them as they are not now tired at the end of the day and all of my early morning aches and niggles have disappeared.
For best results, Revitive recommend
- Use Revitive footpads for at least 30 to 60 minutes each day, seven days a week. If you have varicose veins (CVI), use Revitive foot pads for 60 minutes per day.
- Using Revitive at a high enough intensity is important to give you a strong, comfortable muscle contraction. Most people achieve a strong muscle contraction over intensity level 40 (intensity range 1-99).
- If you are diagnosed with a long-term medical condition such as High Blood Pressure, High Cholesterol, Diabetes, Osteoarthritis, Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI), Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) or COPD, it can take up to 8 weeks to help reduce symptoms associated with these chronic conditions.
I think most people of our generation understand the need to keep moving and to stretch. The pandemic inspired many more people to get out and walk or to take up an exercise class. Our health is so important, and we are much more aware of doing anything to help our bodies. However, we still need any additional help that we can get. I have read the reviews online and Revitive seems to have helped most people that have used it. If you are someone who is going to use this machine regularly, then I think it would be a very beneficial purchase. I do think consistent use is the key. I keep it under my desk, so I can occasionally use it whilst sitting and working.
I am sure the Revitive Medic Coach would also be very useful for elderly people who do not get out of their chairs very much as it is so important to keep their circulation going to avoid many conditions that afflict them.
