What you will be doing? Through the process of agreement and preference you will be selected for a design engineer discipline of either electrical, mechanical or structures and outfit. During the Engineering Higher Apprenticeship you will develop knowledge, skills, design toolsets (such as AutoCAD and Autodesk inventor) and behaviours within your engineering discipline whilst gaining valuable experience in design engineering which will culminate in you completing an End Point Assessment with a view of becoming an Associate Design Engineer. This will set you on the engineering career development ladder to potentially develop through the engineering levels, leading to the opportunity to progress to a Principal Design Engineer and beyond. The Engineering Higher Apprenticeship is a 3-year scheme with the first 6 months spending time in Portsmouth Naval Base's Skills and Development Centre where you will develop your practical engineering skills. Following that you will spend time in a number of different placements within related engineering departments where you will undertake a range of engineering activities and be exposed to different aspects of the project lifecycle. Also, within the Design Team you will experience placements with the other engineering disciplines to provide a wider perspective and all round engineering understanding. You will attend college during the first 2 years on a day release programme to complete the Higher National Certificate (HNC). At the end of the 3 years, you will be required to complete and pass an End Point Assessment which confirms you have gained the required knowledge, skills and behaviours of the apprenticeship. What Qualification will you get? Qualification requirements | 5 GCSE A*-C or 9-4 (or equivalent) Including Maths, English & Science or Technical Subject A minimum of 96 UCAS Tariff Points (240 point old system)(excluding UCAS points gained at AS level) achieved from either: - 3 A levels at grade C or above (Or equivalent). One subject must be Maths and one subject must be in Engineering, Science or a Technical subject. - An Engineering based Level 3 Extended BTEC Diploma (which meets the required UCAS points) or equivalent. |
