£28,000- £31,050 plus benefits

Reports to: RDC Warehouse Manager

Directorate: Marketing, Fundraising & Engagement

Contract: Permanent

Hours: Full time 37.5 hours per week Monday-Friday (Occasional weekends)

At Cancer Research UK, we exist to beat cancer.

Cancer Research currently have circa 600 shops, all stocking quality items generated by our National and Regional Distribution Centres (NDC/RDC). Currently we have multiple Regional Distribution Centres with plans for a further 6 to open over the next 5 years.

Within our NDC and RDCs there are two teams, our Marketplace team who sort and identify items for our online marketplace platforms and our Warehouse Team. Our Warehouse Team sort, identify, label and price quality Items for our shops, our aim is to allocate 10000 items per week to our retail operation.

We are looking at a confident, engaging, and adaptable Warehouse Assistant Manager to work in our Warrington RDC.

This is an operational role where you will be the go-to person on the Warehouse floor, making sure workflow is correct and managing the day-to-day operations, including line management of circa 12 Warehouse Assistants, supported by the Warehouse Manager. You will be working closely with the Online Marketplace Assistant Manager and Warehouse Manager to make sure the operation runs as efficiently as possible, ensuring KPIs are met and exceeded. You'll also have the opportunity to contribute to continuous improvement allowing you to use your experience and skills to make an impact in how the operations run.

What will I be doing?

  • Working closely with the Warehouse Manager to identify opportunities to improve operational effectiveness, contribute to and implement RDC software systems and working practices in line with best practice and continuous improvement.

  • Ensure operating processes within the team relate to and deliver the strategic objectives of the site.

  • Work closely with the senior retail team and driver resource to maintain critical relationships and the efficient stock flow, service provision and best practice ways of working.

  • Supervise, provide duty management and coordinate daily warehouse activities and staff including textiles & homeware sorting, processing, seasonal storage, allocation, dispatch, and all haulage contractors during collections/deliveries.

  • Support in the recruitment, development, and retention employees (including volunteers)

  • Identify training and development needs for the team, oversee all staff focus conversations, monitor staff performance and seek support and advice from the Warehouse Manager.

What skills will I need?

  • A background within warehousing & logistics, a fast-paced commercial environment Marketplace eCommerce and e-commerce warehouse management knowledge would be desirable but not essential.

  • Proven knowledge of warehouse operational policies and procedures, including Health & Safety and continuous improvement.

  • Effective decision maker with the ability to work under pressure Proven ability in managing & motivating a team of multi skilled warehouse assistants, volunteers & support team, to produce excellent service to the retail network

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication with the ability to build collaborative and effective relationships Proven ability to work on own initiative, assess priorities and be initiative-taking in making recommendations.

  • Highly organised, able to co-ordinate multiple deliverables, set and meet demanding deadlines, embedding a positive team culture, and holding others accountable for delivery of activity

  • A full driving license and flexibility to travel for meetings/training/site visits is essential
