Job Description
The Principal Private Secretary supports the DPM on all major policy and operational decisions; represents her views within the department, across Whitehall and externally; manages the flow of advice to the DPM; and ensures decisions are communicated and acted upon. You will have the chance to influence policy development at the highest levels of government in this role, driving the DPM's priorities both in the department and with other departments, on cross-cutting issues that will have impact for citizens across the country. The Principal Private Secretary also has a key leadership role heading up a staff team of over 60 including 6 ministerial private offices, support for special advisers, and the departments Parliamentary and Correspondence Units. As such the PPS is responsible for ensuring high quality support for the whole Ministerial Team. These can be found in the Civil Service Leadership Statement which is available at: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/civil-service-leadership-statement/civil-service-leadership-statement Key AccountabilitiesYour responsibilities will include, but not be confined to:Advising the DPM, supporting her to drive forward the government's agenda and overseeing delivery of that agenda in the department and across government; Taking a strategic overview of department and government business, intervening where necessary to unblock and resolve issues and ensure the DPM's priorities are progressing; Representing the DPMs views across Whitehall and externally: being the principal link to No10 and HM Treasury, maintaining effective relationships with the centre and other departments, to support the delivery of priority policies and intervening with credibility and confidence; Promoting positive collaboration between ministers, special advisers and the department's senior leadership through building and maintaining high-quality, effective relationships;Overseeing high-quality direct support to the full ministerial and special adviser team, including ensuring that they have outstanding private office support, excellent advice and support on their engagement with Parliament.
