Job Description
The jobholder will work in one of the Mission teams or the Strategy team of the Mission Delivery Unit, drawing on their experience in delivering for citizens to tackle the most pressing problems of our time, right in the heart of government. These are a demanding and intellectually stimulating role, providing an unparalleled opportunity to combine delivery experience with an ability to influence the most powerful decision makers in the country, including the Prime Minister and the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster (CDL). The jobholders will have a unique opportunity to have a high and far-reaching impact on citizens and frontline partners across the UK. They will work with the rest of the MDU, Mission teams, CO, No10 and HM Treasury to deliver on the governments missions. There are six teams:The Opportunity team works closely with the Department for Education and other government departments to break the link between peoples backgrounds and their future success. The work focuses on setting every child up for the best start in life, helping every child to achieve and thrive at school, building skills for opportunity and growth so that every young person can follow the pathway that is right for them, ensuring every child has a safe loving home, and tackling the barriers that mean too many families struggle to afford the essentials. You will ensure strong delivery plans are in place and work to unblock issues that arise.The Growth team works closely with HMT, other government departments, and external partners on the governments central mission to kickstart economic growth. You will work closely with HM Treasury, departments, and external partners in the delivery chain to define delivery success and advise on ambitious but achievable delivery planning. The mission is aiming for the highest sustained growth in the G7, with more people in good jobs, higher living standards and productivity growth in every part of the UK.The Energy team works closely with the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero and other government departments, as well as industry, to build the UKs position as a clean energy superpower. The mission is focused on delivering clean power by 2030, accelerating our transition to net zero, and establishing Great British Energy. You will work closely with the MDUs Growth team to ensure these priorities are delivered in a way that enables economic growth.The Safer Streets team works closely with the Home Office, MOJ, other government departments, and external partners on the governments mission to Take Back our Streets. This important and ambitious crime and justice mission is focused on halving violence against women and girls and knife crime and raising confidence in the police and criminal justice system. You will work closely with partners in the centre, including No10, HMT and EDS to drive forwards delivery of the mission, assessing delivery plans and briefing CDL and the PM on progress.The Health and Social Care team works closely with DHSC and NHSE, alongside wider government departments to deliver on the mission to create an NHS fit for the future. The team works on tracking delivery and unblocking challenges to achieve the missions three key aims: to improve access to the NHS including delivering governments target on elective waiting times, reduce lives lost to the biggest killers such as CVD and cancer, and shorten the time spent in ill health through a renewed focus on prevention.The strategy team works closely with the other MDU teams to identify and address cross-cutting issues and interdependencies across the five Missions, lead the coordination and delivery of mission enabling work across the MDU, lead on cross-Whitehall engagement to help develop horizon scanning for potential future delivery issues across Whitehall.
