The Role
The Regional Medical Diet Nutritionist for the North will be responsible for all day-to-day allergy and medical diet management within the defined region. The nutritionist will report directly into the Senior Medical diet Nutritionist and sit as part of the wider Technical and Compliance Team for Chartwells. This role will have responsibility for line management of any regional contract nutritionists within their geographical area.
This is an integral role responsible for the full allergy and medical diet management of all schools within their region, across all sectors of Chartwells. It is critical to ensuring our customers with food allergies and intolerances remain safe by implementing central medical diet processes across the estate. They will help drive change and shape the future of medical diet provision by auditing and evaluating our processes and working with the senior medical diet nutritionist to shape the future of medical diets. This role will also lead on the business-critical requirement of the safe and timely delivery of medical diet menus for schools in their region.
The nutritionist will represent the medical diets team across their region internally, externally and with senior colleagues and clients. They should display leadership, confidence and positive behaviours around medical diets, allergens, and compliance. As a Medical Diet Nutritionist for the North this role will provide stability and consistency to all stakeholders within their region promoting best practice and reducing risk.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead representation of medical diets team throughout region
- Implementation of central medical diet policies and procedures across region
- Auditing and monitoring of compliance to medical diet policies and procedures
- Promoting best practice and contributing to ways to reduce risk when catering for medical diets
- Ensuring safe delivery of medical diet menus for contracts
- Manage sensitive pupil allergy information in line with GDPR regulations
- Management of contract based medical diet nutritionists developing team members and recognising future talent
- Key contact for internal colleagues including area, group, regional managers, business directors and other senior colleagues
- Ensuring all colleagues within region are adequately trained and contribute to training plans
- Contributing to and presenting at team meetings
- Key contact and relationship building with schools and clients
- Problem solving and investigation of allergy incidents within the region
- Establish strong and transparent communication with all stakeholders and colleagues
- External representation of medical diets team where required
- Contributing to key projects as required to support Senior Medical Diet Nutritionist or Head of Technical and Compliance
- Supporting the future proofing of medical diet provision in Chartwells
- Maintain sound knowledge on current legislation affecting food allergies e.g., Food Information Regulations / Natasha's Law and any other relevant existing or new legislation
- Support business development and retention presentations
- Where required support other members of the wider medical diets and nutrition team to maintain strong collaboration across teams
Person Specification
- BSc in Nutrition or equivalent
- Minimum 2 years' experience working within industry
- Experience of working with food allergies and intolerances
- Experience of working within school food industry
- Up to date on knowledge of allergy legislation
- Self-motivated to manage own diary commitments and busy workloads
- Demonstrates leadership skills and capable of people management
- Confident in public speaking and presenting to large groups
- Resilient in challenging situations
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent relationship building skills with ability to quickly gain credibility with key stakeholder groups
- Demonstrates Compass values and recognition principles
- Willingness to travel and occasional overnight stays, company car will be provided.
