Job summary
The Sport Team is responsible for the strategy, governance and co-ordination of Sport in the UK and aims to encourage everyone to get active and engage in sport at every level. We work closely with our four ALBs: UK Sport; Sport England; UK Anti-Doping; and the Sports Grounds Safety Authority.
The Sport Team covers the following areas: elite sport, grassroots sports participation, womens sport, sports economy, health, diversity, sports grounds safety, sport integrity (i.e. anti-doping and anti-corruption) and major events.
The Womens Sport Team works with stakeholders across womens sport and develops policy that supports the growth of women and girls sport at all levels - from grassroots to elite. With exposure to some of the most exciting teams, leagues and grassroots organisation that are pushing hard to grow all levels of womens sport, this is a great time to work on a high profile and fast moving policy area.
Job description
Policy professionals design and deliver projects and policy solutions to help meet key government priorities and Departmental objectives.
Policy Advisor roles typically carry out a range of duties, which may include:
- Representing the Department in meetings with key people/organisations in the sectors which your team has responsible in DCMS for, and in meetings with other Government Departments to promote DCMS priorities.
- Drafting advice to Ministers and senior officials on your policy area or briefing them for meetings with key people in your sector.
- Drafting answers to Parliamentary Questions and correspondence.
- Working in teams across the Policy Group to deliver on specific Departmental priorities and projects.
Person specification
The ideal candidate would have the following key skills and experience:
Essential requirements:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated experience working with varied stakeholders.
- Ability to prioritise tasks, dealing with conflicting priorities and delivering to tight deadlines.
- Skilled in being able to weigh up a range of evidence and use sound judgement to inform effective advice.
- Ability to see the bigger picture and understand how your work supports wider objectives and meets the diverse needs of stakeholders. employer.
- Experience in delivering work at pace and adapting to change.
Desirable skills:
- Experience working collaboratively to achieve a desired outcome e.g. University project.
- Demonstrable interest or experience in womens sport.
